4th grade got to hear from a Jamestown outreach presenter. They learned all about the Powhatan and the first permanent English settlement and got to interact with artifacts!

Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon!!

JWES will be holding its Fall Book Fair October 26-November 4. Students will be able to shop during their regular library time or before school on designated days. We will also be open during parent/teacher conference on Nov. 2 and during Family Night on Nov. 4. Please see the parent letter for the book fair calendar and more information. For ease in shopping, consider setting up an EWALLET for your child. Don't forget to Share the Fair so all students at JWES can enjoy shopping at the book fair. We hope to see you there!

Welcome, Mr. Eby!
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Chris Eby, our longtime PE teacher, will be joining us as an Administrator Intern following Diane’s retirement at the end of this month. Chris will serve in this role for the remainder of the school year.

As most of you know, Chris has been one of our star PE teachers for the past 10 years. During that time, he has helped create a positive culture of health, wellness, and fun throughout our school. His energy, relationships with students, and commitment to John Wayland have made him an important part of our school community.

Chris has also earned his administrator endorsement and, over the past several years, has stepped into the administrative role on numerous occasions when needed, often working behind the scenes to support our school.

We are excited to have Chris take on this new challenge and are confident that his experience, relationships, and knowledge of John Wayland will serve him well in this role. Please join us in congratulating Chris and welcoming him to the administrative team!

Here’s a little note of introduction and picture from Mr. Eby:

Hello! My name is Chris Eby, and I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to serve as the Intern Assistant Principal at JWES. I know this is a time of transition for our school community, and I’m honored to step into this role and continue supporting the students, families, and staff who make JWES such a special place.
For those who may not know me as well, I grew up in Harrisonburg and graduated from Bridgewater College with a degree in Physical Education. I later went back to school at JMU and earned my Master’s in Educational Leadership in December 2023. I live in Dayton with my wife, Emily, and our three pets.
For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the physical education teacher at JWES, which has given me the opportunity to get to know so many of your children and families. While my role is changing, my commitment to our students and this school community remains the same. I’m looking forward to working with you and your children in this new role and to all that’s ahead!
