Bridgewater State University Music Department The curriculum includes the essentials of music history, theory and performance.

From Renaissance madrigals to stadium-filling pop, music is a unique form of communication that comes from the heart and taps into the very roots of our humanity. The Department of Music at Bridgewater State University provides a solid foundation in the theory and practice of classical music traditions – along with courses in jazz, other popular genres and West African drumming – all in the contex

t of a liberal arts education relevant to a wide variety of careers. Students have the opportunity to study under accomplished professionals who perform regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Fenway Brass Quartet and other world-class ensembles. In addition to the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree, the department offers concentrations in Music Education, Jazz Studies and Classical Performance, a Master of Arts in Teaching (Music), a music minor and courses that satisfy the university’s core curriculum requirements. Instrumental and vocal ensembles – as well as private instruction in piano, guitar, voice, and orchestral and band instruments – are open to all students, offering a unique opportunity to flex your creativity on campus while developing critical leadership and teamwork skills.

Meet Elana DeAlmeida! 🎶

For Elana, some of the best moments at Rawkstars happen when a student's face lights up because they've created something together through music. Those moments of joy, confidence, and connection are what make teaching so rewarding.

As a Music Education major at Bridgewater State University, Elana is passionate about helping young musicians grow while continuing to develop as an educator herself. She brings enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine love of music into every lesson, creating an environment where students feel encouraged to learn, take chances, and have fun.

Outside of Rawkstars, you'll often find Elana hiking, spending a day at the beach, or enjoying the outdoors. She's also a huge animal lover, and one of her favorite ways to unwind is spending time with her cat.

We're so glad Elana is part of the Rawkstars team and helping create memorable musical moments for our students every day. ⭐

Did you hear that members of the BSU Music Department are planning a spring collaboration in Mexico? Last night there was an info session, and registration will be open soon! Students who register by October 1 will be qualified for university scholarships and receive a discount on their fee! It’s going to be an incredible tour through Mexico City and Puebla, performing in both cities and collaborating with the wonderful Coro de Camara ISMEA of ISMEA and Uriel Ortega Ortega!
