Last week, I had the opportunity to present two sessions at Al-Amal School in Minneapolis, MN: one on positive school staff culture and another on meaningful Islamic integration across the curriculum. The staff seemed to really connect with both topics, and I hope the sessions were a meaningful step in their continued professional growth, insha’Allah! But one thing that especially stood out to me was how many men Al-Amal has working in the school, masha’Allah. This is something that can be difficult to find in many Islamic schools, and I was so happy to see the boys there are fortunate to have male role models at school, Alhamdulillah. And subhanAllah, the barakah in the time was felt throughout the entire day! We started late due to some technical issues, but we still were not rushed at all and even ended early! Masha’Allah, I truly enjoyed my time and getting to meet everyone! Jazakum Allahu khayran for having me, Al Amal School! 💙

With a reputation like that of Tarbiyah Academy, it’s no wonder I was honored and excited to be invited to collaborate with their teachers last week! Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to facilitate my FITRAH Framework training there for two days, and the staff persevered through two days of intensive work! This was a group that clearly valued professional development and growth and had such a positive spirit throughout, Masha’Allah. I loved the time together and the conversations and ideas that were exchanged among all the great minds. They have a beautiful vision of tarbiyah and leadershipfor their students, led by Rasha El-Haggan, and I pray Allah blesses this new year in continuous pursuit of this Insha’Allah! It was great to be back at Al Madina School of Richmond earlier this week! After flight delays and cancelations, Alhamdulillah we managed to reschedule till the following day. With discussions on classroom structure and on working with parents, it was nice to dive into two very different aspects of teaching, and their questions and ideas were reflective of experience and the desire for growth, Masha’Allah! Al Ihsan School (Cleveland, OH) reached out to me back in January to schedule PD for August, and it almost didn’t happen because of airline issues that made the trip take THREE times as long and had me running like a crazy person to catch my connecting flight right before they closed the doors. 😅 But Alhamdulillah, I made it, and I’m so glad I did!

Masha’Allah, teachers from all 3 buildings were in attendance on their first day back at work (sorry again! 😅), and they were so gracious, welcoming, enthusiastic, and so comfortable to work and converse with! I also got to meet quite a few teachers who I had only known through social media before, and we finally got to meet in person! I feel like my Reach & Teach family just keeps growing, Alhamdulillah! 💙 Jazakum Allah Khair Al Ihsan School of Excellence💙

Islamic school administrators and teachers, please make those first MOMENTS of back-to-school WELCOMING, EXCITING, HAPPY, POSITIVE, and FULL OF ENERGY! 💙💙 Masha’Allah, some schools are doing an amazing job with welcome-back greetings, decorations, nasheeds, prizes, and activities as students and families walk through the doors on the first day, and the smiles and energy are so evident! For you, it may feel like the start of another year of work, but for students and families, it’s never “just another year,” especially if they are new to your school or even stepping into ANY school for the first time!

Smile! Greet them! Welcome them! Show your excitement! Don’t make their first experience immediately down to business and serious. There will be plenty of time for schedules, procedures, expectations, and all the important things that need to get done. First, let them feel that you are genuinely HAPPY they are there. Energy is contagious, whether positive or negative, and those first few interactions can immediately help students and families feel comfortable, excited, and like “I’m glad I’m here.” Let’s make sure the message they receive from the moment they walk through our doors is: We’re happy you’re here. You belong here. We’re excited for the year ahead. Let’s give them an AWESOME first impression, insha’Allah! 🎉🎉🎉

The cutest preschool ever is in Garland, TX, and it is Little! 🥹🥹 The intentional details in their space make it so calming and joyful even for adults, let alone young children, Masha’Allah. I presented a workshop on Social Emotional Learning and Tarbiyah in Early Childhood yesterday to the staff on their first day back at work, and they were so sweet and welcoming - the kind of teachers you feel truly care about the young ones they teach, mashaAllah. 💙 Jazakum Allah Khair littlehorizonsacademy !

Al Huda Academy was the first school I ever went out of town to present at, exactly a year ago, so they have a special place in my heart already, and, Alhamdulillah, I was invited to spend the day with them again yesterday to begin the new year with training on active learning strategies and working with parents. Beautiful smiles and open hearts who welcomed me from the moment I arrived and showed appreciation that humbled me so much! I had such a great time with them and learned so much from their ideas and discussions as well! Jazakum Allah Khair Al-Huda Academy for your generous spirit and hospitality!
