As our District Chef, he will be:

π₯ From Seed to Salad! π₯
Excitement was in the air today at Buckshutem Road School! After a month of watching their food grow right before their eyes, our students finally got to taste the fruits (well, the greens!) of their patience. π₯¬
Todayβs lunch featured Tom Thumb lettuceβa delicious miniature butterhead variety that our students have been observing all month long. Thereβs nothing quite like the pride on a student's face when they recognize exactly where their food came from!
This is exactly why Farm to School initiatives are so vital. By bringing the farm into the classroom and cafeteria, we are:
πEducating students on the lifecycle of their food.
π Connecting them to the source of their nutrition.
π₯¬ Encouraging healthy eating habits that last a lifetime.
Seeing our students excited to reach for a salad proves that when kids grow it, theyβll eat it! π₯¬β¨

π₯ Root, Root, Hooray! π₯
Bridgeton Public Schools 3rd graders took a deep dive underground this week with a special Farm to School lesson: βRoot for the Root!β Students became plant scientists for the day, discovering how root vegetables grow, and learning how to identify which parts of a plant are edible (spoiler: itβs more than you think!).
The highlight? A Rainbow Carrot Taste Test! π π₯Students sampled purple, yellow, and orange carrots, which were locally sourced from Eagle Road Farms in Quarryville, Pa, and were absolutely amazed by the subtle flavor differences between the colors. After our Third grade "carrot census," the results are in: Yellow carrots took the #1 spot! ππ₯
We are proud that our Farm to School Department works year-round helping our students connect with their food, understand how it grows, and get excited about healthy eating! π©πΌβπΎπ«
