📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE

Our community conversation with Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter, originally scheduled for Thursday, October 8, has been postponed by the Bridgeport Police Department.

We know many community members were looking forward to this important conversation and the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and make their voices heard. We’re disappointed that we won’t be able to come together as planned, especially after putting so much time into organizing this space.

We hope to reschedule this conversation soon and will share a new date as soon as it is confirmed.

Thank you to everyone who planned to join us and to our community partners and supporters for helping us spread the word. We’ll keep you updated. 🗣️✊🏽

There are difficult moments when the weight of what our immigrant communities are facing can feel overwhelming. But nights like this remind us of something powerful: we are not facing these moments alone.

At our annual fundraiser, Rooted in Community, Forward Together, we came together to celebrate our community, honor the work we have built together, and remind one another that when we come together, we are stronger.

No matter what challenges lie ahead, we will continue to organize, show up, care for one another, fight for justice, and build a future where our communities can thrive.

This work would not be possible without the people who make it happen. 🧡

To our donors, sponsors, volunteers, members, staff, partners, and everyone who showed up, thank you for believing in this work and investing in our communities. And to everyone who has been part of the Make the Road CT family over the years, those who are still here, those whose lives have taken them in different directions, and everyone who has contributed along the way, thank you. Every person who has walked through our doors has helped shape this organization and this movement.

A special thank you to 224 EcoSpace () for welcoming us into your beautiful space and helping make this night so special.

This is what it means to be rooted in community and forward together.

And we’re not done. With your continued support, we can keep building power, supporting our communities, and creating change together.

Yesterday, our Deputy Director Mary Elizabeth Smith shared some of the work the rapid response network has been doing in Bridgeport and around the state in response to increased ICE activity, together with Andrea Sanchez from CT Students for a Dream and Maggie Mitchell Salem from IRIS - Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services. Thank you, Connecticut Public Radio for inviting us for this important conversation!

Last month, ICE conducted over 100 arrests in Connecticut. From protests to organizing meal trains, volunteers are working to organize and support immigrant communities. We learn what this looks like across the state.
