The School of Engineering student "Maheswari Kumar Rakkappan" from Mechanical Department wins the “ 2016 GA of the Year Award” in the Student Leadership Awards Banquet.
Miss.Maheswari Kumar Rakkappan has been working as a GA with Prof.Jani Pallis.
Dr.Palllis says “Maheshwari is an extremely competent graduate student, one of the very few women mechanical engineering student and passionate about aeronautical and aerospace engineering". She was worked as a student worker during summer and fall 2015 and became full-time GA in Spring 2016.

Mechanical Engineering Department
Acts as the home of the CNC Mini Milling Machine Laboratory, Computer Aided Engineering and Rapid Prototyping Laboratory, and the Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. Students can also access to the other laboratories in the School of Engineering. Some classes are taught by adjunct faculty from local industries and faculty from other engineering departments at UB.

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is designed to enhance the skills of individuals with a strong mathematical, scientific or technical background for entry into the profession at an advanced level, to obtain a position in industry or consulting, and/or for further study leading to a Doctorate Degree.
This degree program provides advanced study in contemporary and emerging Mechanical Engineering fields as well as in the traditional mechanical engineering field. The department supports several curriculum tracks as well as general mechanical engineering coursework which permits the student to increase his/her knowledge and competence in essential skills for mechanical engineering while affording sufficient freedom to provide in-depth study in areas such as mechanical design, manufacturing, solid mechanics and materials, and thermal fluid system and sustainable energy; and explore in interdisciplinary areas such as mechatronics and automation, sports and aeronautical engineering, biomechanical engineering, and micro and nano engineering.

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree program prepares the student for a successful professional career through advanced study in design, development, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems for a wide range of industries, including transportation, automation, medical, energy generation, electronic, sports and aerospace.
The program combines core mechanical engineering courses with technical electives that enable the student to increase his/her knowledge and competence in essential skills for Mechanical Engineering while affording sufficient freedom to provide in-depth study in both traditional and contemporary curriculum tracks and explore emerging interdisciplinary areas. The technical areas supported by the department include General Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Management, Mechanics and Materials, Thermal Fluid Systems and Sustainable Energy, Biomechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Automation, and Sports and Aeronautical Engineering. The student is required to design an individualized program of study with the help and approval of his/her faculty advisor to meet his/her academic and career goals.
