Interdistrict Discovery Magnet

Our 4th - 6th grade Dragons recently had the exciting opportunity to welcome State Representative Christopher Rosario to Discovery Magnet School. During the visit, Representative Rosario shared personal stories about his school experience, the challenges he overcame, and the journey that led him to public service. Students learned about the important work that takes place at the State Capitol, how laws impact schools and communities, and the many ways young people can make a positive difference.

The highlight of the session was a lively question-and-answer period, where students asked thoughtful questions about leadership, government, and community involvement.

Representative Rosario encouraged our Dragons to use their voices, lead with purpose, and stay engaged in making their communities better places for everyone. We are grateful for this meaningful experience that inspired our students to see themselves as future leaders and active citizens. 🐉💙💛 Many thanks to Ms. Connolly for setting up this great event.

🤝 It Takes All of Us!

Today, we’re spotlighting Ms. Jennifer Brown, a 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher at Discovery Magnet School whose impact reaches far beyond her classroom.

Ms. Brown helps students find their voices and become confident readers, writers, and leaders. Her dedication has contributed to strong ELA performance, multiple student winners of Fairfield University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest, and memorable learning experiences through plays, museums, and educational trips.

She also supports her fellow educators as a mentor and plays an important role in ensuring testing runs smoothly throughout the school.

But perhaps her students say it best:

💬 “Ms. Brown is an amazing teacher because she encourages us to do better and teaches us how to be leaders and make responsible choices throughout our seventh and eighth grade year.”
— Ma’Lani Wright, Analisa Lopez & Ava Rocha-Reaes

Thank you, Ms. Brown, for showing why It Takes All of Us to support every student!

Today, our school community came together in remembrance of 9/11. We began the day with morning announcements led by Mr. Ramos and a moment of silence to honor those we lost.
We were deeply moved by the beautiful tribute created by Ms. Anderson and our talented 8th grade students, the "United Together" writing activities in Mr. Gill's class, and the ribbons shared by Mrs. Adams.
As we reflect today, we remember the strength, compassion, and unity Americans showed in the days that followed. ❤️🇺🇸
