TOMORROW

Please join Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery and State Senator Sujata Gadkar Wilcox for a screening of "Immutable" Presented by The Matthew Harris Ornstein Memorial Foundation

This powerful and timely film follows a group of students from the Washington Urban Debate League as they fight to find their voices in a world that too often tries to silence them.

The screening will take place on Sept. 1st 5:30-7:30 at Winthrop School (formally Bridgeport Military Academy) located on the University of Bridgeport campus
160 Iranistan Ave

Following the screening, there will be a brief community discussion with a panel moderated by Dr. Royce Avery, Superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools and featuring State Senator Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, Park City Prep Debate Coach Kristy Elliot, and Nicole Nelson, City Council member and
Education Chair of the Greater Bridgeport NAACP.

Refreshments will be provided, and viewers of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate.

We hope you join us for this exciting opportunity to highlight the importance of debate for students in Bridgeport and around the nation.

It Takes All of Us. 💙💛

Today, we are proud to spotlight Sandra Jorge from our Early Childhood Department, whose impact reaches far beyond her day-to-day responsibilities.

Sandra is often one of the first people our families turn to for help. No matter the question or challenge, she takes the time to listen, find answers, and connect families with the resources they need. Behind the scenes, she keeps things moving, manages countless details, and steps in whenever she is needed, always with kindness and professionalism.

But perhaps the best way to understand Sandra’s impact is through the words of one of our students. Yasmin Cunha Apolinario from Classical Studies Magnet Academy shared that Sandra was “always helping students, teachers, and families with whatever they needed,” and made families feel “welcome and understood.”

That is what It Takes All of Us is about. People who show up, care deeply, and make a difference for our students and families every single day.

Thank you, Sandra, for everything you do for Bridgeport Public Schools!

A Great Start to the School Year! 💙📚

There is nothing like seeing our students back in our classrooms!

The first days of school have been filled with excitement across Bridgeport. Students reconnecting with friends, families walking through our doors, and our teachers and staff doing what they do best, showing up for our kids.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make the start of the 2026–2027 school year a great one. It takes all of us working together to support our students and keep Bridgeport Public Schools moving forward.

We are excited for what is ahead!

Thank you to the Connecticut Post for capturing some of these special moments from the start of school.

📚 LET’S START THE YEAR STRONG, BRIDGEPORT!

A successful school year takes all of us. Our students, families, teachers and staff each play an important role in creating schools where everyone feels safe, respected, supported and ready to learn.

The Student Code of Conduct helps set that foundation by outlining the expectations and responsibilities we share as a school community. We encourage families to review it with their children and continue those conversations at home.

And it starts with being here. Come to school every day and arrive on time. Attendance matters.

Families, we are here to support you too! Our Back to School 2026–27 Portal brings important information together in one place, including bus routes, breakfast and lunch menus, school hours, the Parent Portal, student registration and the school calendar.

When our students, families and staff work together, we set our students up for success. It Takes All of Us!

It takes a village, and today was a great example of what that looks like in Bridgeport.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery and our Office of Student Support welcomed families to the Bridgeport Public Schools Enrollment Center for today’s Backpack & Uniform Giveaway, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bridgeport.

More than a giveaway, today was about showing up for our families and making sure they know they have a community behind them as we begin a new school year.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Bridgeport and everyone who helped make today possible. This is what partnership looks like.

Our school counselors are ready for a new year! 💙

Bridgeport Public Schools counselors gathered for professional development focused on new initiatives and strengthening the support we provide to our students and families.

School counselors play such an important role in the lives of our students. They are there to listen, guide, advocate, connect families with resources, and help our students navigate challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.

We were also grateful to welcome community partners, including Child & Family guidance, Bridgeport Promise, and The Center for Family Justice, who shared valuable resources available to support our school communities.

Thank you to our incredible school counselors and community partners for everything you do for Bridgeport! 💙

Today was about our people. 💙

As we prepare for a new school year, Interim Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery wanted to welcome our Bridgeport Public Schools staff back in a different way this year. Not with a meeting or a presentation, but by bringing everyone together to enjoy good food, music, dancing, laughter, and time with one another.

Our district moves forward because of the people who show up day in and day out for our students and families. Every classroom, school, office, department, and program is supported by staff who care deeply about the work they do and the community they serve.

Today gave us a chance to celebrate that.

It was an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new members of our BPS family, share some laughs, dance a little, and simply enjoy being together before the work of another school year begins.

A strong district starts with strong relationships. When we know one another, support one another, and work together, we are better for our students, our families, and our entire Bridgeport community.

To every member of our BPS staff, thank you for what you bring to this district every single day. We are excited to begin the 2026–27 school year together. 💙
