The success of Bridgeport Public Schools is made possible by the people who show up every day for our students.

Yesterday, we held our third In It to Win It Superintendent’s Recognition Event, honoring students, staff, families, and community partners whose dedication, leadership, and commitment continue to make a positive impact across our district.

This celebration is an opportunity to recognize those who go above and beyond, often without seeking recognition, to support our schools and help our students succeed.

To all of our honorees, thank you for believing in our students, our schools, and our community. Your commitment helps make Bridgeport Public Schools a better place for everyone.

Congratulations to all who were recognized. We are proud to celebrate you and grateful for the difference you make each and every day.

Mathematics: Progress, Growth, and Continued Focus

During the 2025–2026 school year, the Mathematics Department focused on strengthening instruction, expanding student supports, and creating more opportunities for students to succeed in mathematics across Bridgeport Public Schools.

A major area of focus was the expansion of WIN (What I Need) Blocks, which provided dedicated time for targeted intervention, skill development, and enrichment. The department also conducted more than 250 classroom visits across grades K–12 and provided embedded coaching and professional learning support to educators in 13 schools to help strengthen mathematics instruction.

These efforts contributed to encouraging signs of progress. Between 38% and 56% of students met or exceeded their mathematics growth targets, with the strongest growth observed in Kindergarten (56%), Grade 1 (51%), and Grade 9 (53%). Several grade levels also demonstrated achievement gains from fall to spring, including an 11-percentage-point increase in Kindergarten.

The department also worked to strengthen family engagement by publishing the district’s K–12 Mathematics Scope and Sequence online, supporting Math Fun Nights, expanding financial literacy opportunities, and celebrating student achievement through the 43rd Annual District Math Meet.

While there is still important work ahead to ensure every student reaches grade-level expectations, these efforts reflect meaningful progress toward building stronger mathematics instruction, increasing access to support, and improving outcomes for students across the district.
