Our stars graduated! 🎉🎉🎉

Three cheers for the over 60 students who graduated from our Early Learning program! Each class recognized their students with superlatives and certificates, as well as videos and slideshows of pictures of them in their last year. A special thanks to NEOS Investments for donating backpacks to our graduates!

These incredible young learners are ready to soar in kindergarten, and we are so proud of them!

🍦🍦🍦 Huge thanks to Ice Cream Emergency Southwest CT for helping us celebrate our amazing staff this August! They brought delicious ice cream sundaes to Hall Neighborhood House—and some of our staff said it was the best ice cream they had ever had!

During the celebration, we also selected our August raffle winner, and Ms. Shasha won a gift card to Dairy Queen!

Thank you, staff members, for being the Heart of Hall! ❤️

🎪🎪🎪 "I went to the circus—my first time! I'd never actually been to a circus, but it was pretty interesting, and it had me at the edge of my seat!" - Shannoy

We've loved getting an inside look at Shannoy's Portland adventures—and we've loved sharing our own adventures right here at Hall Neighborhood House, too!

What was one cool experience from your summer? Drop it in the comments!

“I love being able to make a difference in a child’s day, even in the smallest ways.”

Ms. Nicole (Ms. Coco), our head teacher in B104, has been a head teacher here at Hall for about 3 years and has worked with children for over 10 years. She first came to Hall as a student, and says that it really feels like she’s come full circle to now teach in the place she was educated.

After many years of working with children of all age groups and in many different settings, she realized that being an Early Learning teacher was where she belonged. She loves how no two days are the same with her students, and she loves getting to be a part of every moment, no matter how small.

Ms. Nicole’s goal is to make sure that each of her students feels loved, safe, and excited to learn when they are in her classroom. She tries to create endless opportunities to explore, get creative, and become independent.

As a teacher, her proudest moments are when she watches her students have breakthroughs in their learning and development, and when she reflects on just how much each of her students has grown from the time they first started in her classroom to when they are about to leave.

Over the years, being a teacher has taught Ms. Nicole the importance of flexibility and patience, and she is so grateful for the impact she can have on a child during such a critical point in their development, even for the short amount of time she has with them.

Join us in celebrating Ms. Nicole! Drop a heart and show her some love in the comments!

Summer is drawing to a close, and Shannoy is finishing up her time in Portland. She shared a few highlights from the past couple of weeks, and we cannot wait to see a recap of her final presentation!

- Dinner with doctors, scientists, and biotech professionals. (She got the invite while shadowing in the OR—so cool!)
- Career roundtable. In Shannoy's words, "If they have done it, then I can also do it."
- Meeting someone who is going to Wesleyan University with her in the fall!
- Internship BBQ feat. card games, good food, and quality time with her fellow interns.
- Immunofluorescence staining in the lab. (Trust us—you're going to want to read Shannoy's explanation of this super cool procedure.)
- Prepping for her oral presentation and the poster ceremony.

What an incredible summer for our HNH LEADS program!

We celebrated the end of our five-week summer intensive by reflecting on the program, sharing favorite memories, and asking a panel of HNH LEADS alumni questions about their college experiences. Students received awesome advice that will serve them well as they begin their own application processes and prepare for college!

We also made walking yearbooks by signing each other's handmade tie-dye shirts, and everyone received a certificate of completion before sharing a celebratory meal together.

Our students worked so very hard these last five weeks and gave every activity, lesson, and trip their all. We are extremely proud of them and all that they accomplished, and we look forward to the Academic Year program!
