We are off and drumming! Amy and R.J.’s class began the new school year building friendships and creating art together, a little "musical art" that is.

Students have been using found objects to make music and with the help of Hudson Music. The group has begun working with keyboards, and look forward to coming together as a band.

This journey includes researching lyrics and musical artists. Students are exploring how artists make songs their own, and will learn how to write their own lyrics.

Join us this Thursday for Curriculum Night!
“A Day in the Life of a Hayground Student”—this is an opportunity for parents to learn about what is happening in their children’s classes and also to see how we teach.
The evening will be broken into three sessions: the first session will be in the classrooms, the second and third sessions will be in Kitchen, Studio, Science, Gardening and Math.
Childcare and pizza for the kids will be provided—please RAVP to [email protected].

What a start to the year for our Senior Learners! From collecting seaweed specimens at Cupsogue Beach for our Art & Science of Seaweed Study, to exploring the Southfork Natural History Museum and Nature Center and LongHouse Reserve—our students have been hands-on and out in the community.
And the fun continues Monday when our Fall Apprenticeships begin!
This season our Senior Learners will be apprenticing at:

Grindstone Coffee and Donuts
The Animal Rescue Fund
The Children's Museum of the East End
LongHouse Reserve

Liz's Senior Learner Class Notes, September 2026: We enjoyed an excellent first two weeks. We visited Cupsogue Beach for a lovely day of collecting seaweed, swimming, and even some singing in the van. Back at school, we cleaned our seaweed and prepared it for pressing. We also visited the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center and the LongHouse, where we learned about their gorgeous, artful gardens...

Ryan's Science Class Notes, September 2026: Science has been off to a great start so far, we have been reviewing classroom rules, laboratory safety, and working with some of the equipment we will be using throughout the year.
