Hi! I’m Ruby, a soprano and creator of The Nightingale Studio currently typing to you from NYC! A little bit about me: I hold a Master of Music (Dist) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London, UK, and a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from The Hartt School of Music in Connecticut, USA (both in Vocal Performance which incorporated pedagogical studies). In London I have loved teaching a private voice studio of singers (aged 6 to adulthood) since 2017, and facilitating and assisting with ensemble work, whether it be as Assistant Music Director of Richmond Opera, or in workshops at Southbank Centre and community halls. I have stayed busy in London performing as a soloist in spaces such as Union Chapel, The Normansfield Theatre, and The Swiss Church. I was honoured to have been a 2020 Britten-Pears Young Artist and was the recipient of The National Operatic and Dramatic Association's Malcom Rose Award in 2019. Before falling in love with London I lived in New York (and no, cannot pick a favourite! Pizza? Great. Scones? Also great.) where I sang with the Bronx Opera Chorus, placed first in the William Haralson Vocal Competition, and performed my own work. I’ve spent time teaching and assisting in the classroom in both New York and Hong Kong, and love working with singers of all ages and performance backgrounds–I love hearing voices brand new to singing! My personal performance practice is centred around Bel Canto and Contemporary opera, classical art song, and improvisation, and I also love the musical theatre classics and teaching various genres. Outside of singing I love to explore my yoga asana and movement practices, bake, go for long walks with a podcast, and quite idealistically switch my Netflix to French. To learn more about my teaching and performance experience, visit the studio site linked in the bio or shoot any questions my way! Let’s sing!!
