💚Convocation 2026-2027! What better way to kick off the 2026–2027 school year at Brewster Central School District than with a presentation of the colors by Brewster High School’s NJROTC students— a nationally Distinguished Unit —and the National Anthem performed by the district’s talented music teachers, who have helped Brewster earn the highly coveted national Best Communities for Music Education recognition.
This morning, the BHS auditorium was filled with teachers and staff representing every school and department, many wearing school colors and waving green pom-poms. Summer has come to an end, but a new school year—and a new opportunity to inspire, challenge and support Brewster students—is just beginning.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Gosh welcomed the staff and expressed her appreciation for the many people who make BCSD special, from Board of Education members and administrators to union partners and the district’s operational teams, including transportation, child nutrition and facilities. She also recognized the teachers and educators who work tirelessly each day to do what Brewster does best: provide an exceptional public education.
The celebration included a warm welcome to new employees, as well as a special shout-out to the many Brewster graduates who have returned to the district as educators—a testament to the enduring spirit of Brewster Pride. The wider Brewster community was also recognized for its continued support, which has helped make the district’s state-of-the-art facilities and learning environments possible.
At the heart of the convocation was a look toward the future and the district’s Vision 2030 plan, with a focus on continuing to provide an exceptional education that is uniquely Brewster.
Three Brewster students who served as student representatives on the Vision 2030 planning team—Sofia Cozart, Kaylee Dwarika-Persad and Solomon Bettcher—shared their perspectives on the process and their hopes for the future of Brewster students.
For Sofia, the vision is simple: “Make BCSD the best place for students.” She spoke about the importance of learning as one of the most valuable life skills and highlighted the district’s new Profile of a Learner, which encourages students to develop a genuine desire for knowledge and a lifelong sense of curiosity.
“I want to be a teacher because I had the most wonderful teachers,” Sofia said, thanking the educators who taught her the importance of learning and being curious.
The student voices offered a reminder of why Vision 2030 matters: the future of Brewster is ultimately about the students it serves and the experiences, skills and opportunities they carry with them into the world.
As the convocation came to a close, Dr. Gosh summed up the spirit of the day: “It is a privilege to do the work we do every day. Here’s to another great year.” 🐾
