Do the SAT and ACT test different grammar rules?

Not as much as many students and parents may think.

Both tests assess many of the same fundamental grammar and writing rules. What often differs is how those rules are presented.
For example, the Digital SAT typically presents a short passage or brief context and focuses on a particular skill. The ACT presents grammar questions within longer passages, requiring students to recognize the rule being tested while working through the passage.

In Part 2 of our 8-Part Digital SAT vs. ACT Series, we use subject-verb agreement to demonstrate how the same grammar rule can appear differently on the two tests.

One of the questions we hear most often from parents and students is:

“Should I take the SAT or the ACT?”
The answer isn't always as simple as choosing one test over the other.
Although the SAT and ACT have important differences, they also test many of the same underlying academic skills. Both assess grammar, reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, and a student's ability to analyze information. What often differs is how the material is presented, the pacing, the test structure, and the overall testing experience.

The built-in Desmos graphing calculator can help students solve certain SAT Math problems more efficiently, check their work, and save valuable time. The key is knowing when to use it—and when not to.

In Part 7 of our Digital SAT Strategy Series, we share one example of how Desmos can make solving a Digital SAT Math problem faster and easier.

This is just a small sample of the strategies we teach our students, but it demonstrates how using the right tool at the right time can improve both confidence and efficiency.
