Over the weekend, the rain gauge at Brevard Elementary School collected about 6.03 inches of rain! 🌧️

Our students check and record the gauge’s measurements as part of their science lessons, and they get to practice being citizen scientists by collecting real weather data. Thank you Mrs. Pauer for sharing these photos!

Junior archaeologists at work at Brevard Middle School! 🏺

Mrs. Holland’s 6th grade students went back in time. They took part in a simulated Archaeology Dig, searching for artifacts from the ancient cultures they will explore in our social studies curriculum.

Teams uncovered an arch and the Colosseum from Rome, the Great Wall and a Buddha statue from China, a ziggurat from Mesopotamia, a sphinx and pyramids from Egypt, and the Parthenon from Greece. Students marked their sites in quadrants, dug through layers of soil, and carefully excavated the artifacts buried within. They then photographed and documented each find for further analysis in the classroom lab.

It was a great day to be a junior archaeologist at BMS! Thank you, Mrs. Holland, for bringing history to life for our students. 👏

Learning about the world right here in Brevard! 🌍

Mrs. Williams’ first graders at Brevard Elementary School had a special visitor last week. Bryony Sweeby joined their class from her home in London, England!

The students have been reading a CKLA reader about best friends Beth and Nat, who meet at camp in the USA. When Nat returns home to the UK, Beth travels to visit him. Ms. Sweeby has worked at Camp Illahee for the past three summers and knows Brevard well, so she was the perfect guest to bring the story to life.

Mrs. Williams’ students came ready with questions about life in the UK, and they made connections to so much of what they have learned in CKLA. Thank you, Ms. Sweeby, for sharing your time and your stories with our young learners! 💙

Brevard High School’s own Ryan Hoxit was featured on WLOS’s Friday morning segment “Thanks to Teachers.” 🍎

Thank you to WLOS ABC 13 for highlighting this amazing educator! We are lucky to have great teachers like Mr. Hoxit who teach, inspire, and encourage our students every day.

When Brevard High’s school store, the Blue Devil Depot, is open, you’ll often find many of Ryan Hoxit’s Occupational Course of Study students working there.
