Our Chapter Co-Presidents clean up pretty well! So proud of Rebecca Harris & Anslee Small for representing the senior class on the Homecoming Court tonight!

We had a great day on Saturday at the Haywood County Fair. We showed goats and cattle, bringing home several wins in the showmanship and market steer division & classes. We are heading to Raleigh in a few weeks for the NC State Fair.

Our goat show team spent the last weekend of the WNC Mountain State Fair showing their goats as Got To Be NC born and bred goats.

Students started their weekend in the showmanship ring on Saturday evening. Ruby Book set the bar high as she was called back to the Junior Division Champion Drive.

Sunday we graced the ring with our market wethers and does, placing well in all the classes, but barely missing the champion drive in our divisions. We are excited to go home with some new goals as we prepare for the NC State Fair in Raleigh in the next few weeks. As of our show season, we’re not done yet! We will be back in Haywood County next weekend with all our show stock!

What a weekend at the WNC Mountain State Fair beef cattle show! We had six students show their show steers and heifer this weekend and we met all our goals and more!

Junior Reserve Championship in showmanship went to Ruby Book on Saturday night! Our senior competitors all did well against some big competition!

Sunday we competed in the market steers and walked away with winning the WNC District Market Steer Championship AND Got to Be NC Reserve Championship with Ruby Book’s shorthorn steer, Weston as well as the WNC District Market Steer Reserve Championship with Gwennie Oszterling’s charlois steer, Jessie. Gracie Shields was a contender in the championship drive for the District & Got to Be NC market steer with her Simmetal steer, Grady after placing high in her market steer class earlier that morning. Haiden Cagle showed his red steer, Rudy to 3rd place in his class, barely missing a chance to come back to the championship drive. Later in the day, Marlee Owenby showed her young commercial heifer, Addy to a 3rd place win in her class of 12 other heifers, landing her in the running for the reserve championship for the commercial heifer drive.

We rest for a few days and will be back next weekend to compete with our market goats!

Today was a special day at our FFA farm. The farm was dedicated and renamed “The Carroll Parker Livestock Learning Center.” Mr. Carroll Parker taught agriculture at Brevard High School, was an active member of the Brevard FFA Alumni, and an advocate for agriculture in Transylvania County. Mr. Parker passed away this past year and we wanted to honor his legacy of his teaching style of hands-on learning and his passion for the farm at BHS. Mr. Jay Case did an amazing job designing and creating the sign that sits at the entrance of the farm. Thank you to all who attended today’s dedication ceremony at the farm to honor a legendary man who had so much passion and devotion to our program.

We are in the market for a porta cooler fan for our show steers this summer. This 85 degree weather is hard on these guys, even in the barn and fans running. If anyone has a reasonable priced unit or wants to donate one (tax write-off!), let us know!

Stop by during school hours (Monday—Friday, 8am—3pm) or visit us on Saturday mornings from 10am—12pm. We also have a stand at the Transylvania County Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings!
