Took the camp traveling fiddle to a gig with my good buddy Daniel Kimbro at 185 King St (Brevard NC) before passing it off to the 1st of 5 campers who will enjoy it for the year. This Daniel’s song “I Got a Chair”. Badass bassist with a real talent for stories and words…check out his music!

🔊 ANNOUNCING: The Fiddlehood of the Traveling Violin 🎻 🚲🚗🚌✈️🧳

Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp is so excited to share the kickoff of a new project. Intended to inspire creativity, exploration, fun, and community, we are giving 5 campers the opportunity to spend two months with a fantastic fiddle/violin. It’s theirs to take on adventures and make memories with. Write a tune on it, take it to a jam, share it with friends, plug it into some wacky effects, play it at the bottom of a canyon or at top of a mountain…sky’s the limit, literally. Adventures will be shared on our socials. The instrument will return to camp the following year and we’ll hold a drawing for the next 5 caretakers-musicmakers for another round…and so on!

The fiddle was made by Joseph Rashid (1909-2009). Living 100 years, he also made 100 violins but never sold them. “It is far more rewarding to hear my violins played by many different musicians,” he stated, and it’s in this spirit that we begin the project. Heartfelt thanks to his family for the donation and opportunity for Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp. And a big thank you to The Violin Shop in Nashville TN who will help us maintain the instrument.

Swipe to the end for some serious square dance face…

Casey Driessen’s Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp brought campers from 25 states and 4 countries, with backgrounds including bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Swedish, jazz, blues, rock, classical, and old time, playing 4, 5, and even 6 string fiddles, cellos, violas, and a nyckelharpa!

Music was shared, joy was experienced by the bucket, and lifelong friendships were forged and fostered ❤️

Dolly Parton’s influence spans generations, and will for generations to come. Here’s 11yr old Isla Ross and her father Clay performing Dolly’s “Coat of Many Colors” just this past Saturday at Fiddle Forward, our culminating concert at Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp. And then we were all dancing to 9-5 at our afterparty the same evening. Normally it takes a bit to get these videos out post-camp, but this one needed to happen in honor of Dolly. We’ll miss you!!!

Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp, presented by Casey Driessen, is an annual string gathering at the creatively inspiring Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC. It features four days and nights of immersive fiddle/violin exploration, guided by Casey and a world-class faculty, culminating in a special finale concert.

The experience puts a modern spin on long-standing traditions of fiddle camps, focusing on individual musical voices through the exploration of rhythm, technology, and style. By embracing both tradition and innovation, Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp invites all adventurous and open-minded players of the instrument around the globe—of any style or number of strings, acoustic or electric—to come together and shape the future of bowed string playing.
