🍎📚 One of the many meaningful celebrations held before summer break was the annual Teacher Education Celebration!
The event honors students in Brevard College’s teacher licensure program and recognizes their accomplishments throughout the school year. Student teachers and interns who spent time working in local schools were celebrated for their dedication and growth, while the next cohort of student teachers was officially introduced as they prepare to begin their own classroom experiences.
One of the highlights of the ceremony is the Passing of the Torch, where graduating student teachers symbolically pass their knowledge, experience, and encouragement to those following in their footsteps. The celebration concluded with a Spirit Read, bringing students, faculty, and guests together to close the year in a fitting tribute to the teaching profession and the impact educators have on future generations. 💙🌪️

✨ You may know her as Brevard College's Vice President of Academic Affairs, but ask Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert about fireflies and you'll discover a whole different area of expertise. ✨
This Thursday, June 11th, Dr. Frick-Ruppert will present "Bioluminescence in Western North Carolina," part of the FIND Outdoors' Stewards & Storytellers lecture series. 🌟
The Southern Appalachians are famous for their Blue Ghost Fireflies, but they're far from the only things glowing in our forests. Join Dr. Frick-Ruppert as she explores fireflies, railroad worms, foxfire, touch-wood, and other fascinating examples of bioluminescence found right here in Western North Carolina. 🪲
The event is free, open to the public, and will be held from 6 to 7pm at The NEST at FIND Outdoors in Pisgah Forest. Light refreshments will be provided. ☕🌲

🏅🎓 Another memorable end-of-semester celebration took place at this year’s Social Science Awards Ceremony!
Students, faculty, families, and friends gathered in the Porter Center as BORG (Business and Organizational Leadership), Criminal Justice, OLEE (Outdoor Leadership and Experiential Education), Physical Education and Recreation, and Psychology each held their own departmental celebrations. The individual ceremonies highlighted the unique traditions, values, and accomplishments of each program before everyone came together to recognize each department’s recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Award and celebrate this year’s Social Science graduates. 💙🌪️
It was a fitting tribute to the hard work, leadership, service, and achievements of students across the Social Sciences. Congratulations again to all of this year’s award recipients and graduates! 🎓

📚🎓 This summer, four members of the Brevard College community participated in the Appalachian College Association’s Teaching and Leadership Institute at Young Harris College, joining colleagues from across the region for a week of professional development focused on student success. ✏️
Dr. Robin Pulliam, Dr. Taewoo Kim, and Dr. Erasme Uyizeye completed the Teaching and Learning track, exploring active and engaged learning strategies that build resilience, encourage academic risk-taking, and help students view learning as an ongoing process. 📖
Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Leadership Rachael DuVall participated in the Institute’s inaugural Student Affairs track, designed specifically for student affairs professionals to strengthen out-of-classroom support and student success initiatives. 🤝
All four earned certificates of completion through the Appalachian College Association and are bringing new ideas and strategies back to Brevard College to support students both inside and outside the classroom. 🎓👏

🎭🎬 Before the semester came to a close, Brevard College Theatre students took center stage one more time for Theatre's Mixtape!
Mixtape serves as a showcase of the creativity, talent, and hard work of Brevard College Theatre students. This year’s event featured capstone presentations, discussions about the production process behind the season’s performances, a dance performance by one of the department’s classes, and a variety of conceptual, writing, and set design projects. Attendees also had the opportunity to screen films created by student filmmakers and watch "The Coder," a short film starring Professor Abbey Toot, who earned Best Actress honors at the Dark Matter Film Festival in Culver City, California, for her performance. 🎥✨
From the stage to the screen and everywhere in between, Mixtape celebrated a year of creative work and gave students the opportunity to share their projects, ideas, and accomplishments with the campus community. 💙🌪️
