It’s been a busy day for the Vet Assisting class today. We started with some triplet goat kids first thing this morning. One baby had some contracted heels so we designed some temporary splints for him. We had some puppies visit for some health checks and nail trims this afternoon, then after school this evening, we delivered TWO MORE sets of twin goat kids! Great teamwork all around and got some hands on practice ALL DAY LONG! Guess we just needed to make up for the time we were out of school this week!

I’m excited about this group of Vet Assisting students this year! They practiced their restraints in class today with nail trims and exams on some special guests. These seniors will begin their internships in a few weeks to obtain their National Vet Assisting Certifications.

Thankful we were able to partner with Labor of Love Transport Rescue for this project!

A BIG thank you to Revolutionary Canine for the time they spent with us today learning about the importance of understanding the basics of dog training. We were able to work with our puppies with Kris and receive the gift of clickers to help with our training. We’ve got a lot of homework to do but these puppies should be some of the best trained animals to come out of the Brevard High School FFA Farm!

🐶 It’s that time of year again; the “Puppy Project” in Animal Science 2! Students received their puppy projects today and have already been making big plans! While these puppies will live at the school farm (you’re welcome, parents), they will foster these cuties for the next 4-6 weeks. They will also be managing all their health care (vaccines, deworming, health checks), daily feeding, care & cleaning, training, socializing, and preparing them for their new homes! They will present their puppy to a panel of judges at the end of the project.
Stay tuned for updates over the next several weeks!

No, we do not have dairy cows at our school farm, but students got to experience milking a cow today. This cow lost her new calf last week but she’s going to be able to save a calf in the future. We were able to collect the colostrum (liquid gold) from her and will freeze it for the day someone with a newborn calf needs it to survive.

The puppies had a field trip to Tractor Supply! Students worked on their socialization and manners while in a totally new environment. Their final week is this week and students will be evaluated on their progress.

Somebody needs to tell these mamas to stop dropping babies in below freezing temperatures 🥶!

April delivered her calf early this morning. She’s a few weeks early so we did some colostrum supplement for the calf and protein supplement for mama to help her make a little more milk. Students had a virtual day today due to icy roads…what a way to host a virtual class today!

Betty White chose the coldest day of the week to drop her triplets this morning at the Brevard High School FFA farm! 3 beautiful girls and their mama are tucked in for the night with plenty of hay and heat after students gave them a clean bill of health today!

The “Christmas” litter has been learning all kinds of great things from our Animal Science 2 students! Looking cute for their adoption photos comes naturally, though. 😍
