Due to some technical difficulties, this morning's Higher Summits Forecast has not been able to update on our website. Here is this morning's forecast (8/11/26).

Higher Summits Forecast Discussion:
Surface low pressure will shift towards the Canadian Maritimes Tuesday morning as high pressure builds down from the north for the afternoon and overnight hours. A broad upper-level trough will slowly sag southward over the forecast period, leading to wet and unsettled weather by late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. Tuesday will start with a moist flow on the back side of a departing low. This will result in low clouds, summit fog, and possibly a pop-up rain shower or two during the morning hours. As the low departs and high pressure builds down behind it, drier air will work in and mix down, which could allow for some partial clearing by the afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler than recent days and will remain below normal. As the low departs and the ridge builds, winds will remain elevated through most of Tuesday. Tuesday night, a clearing pattern will develop as drier air works in. Some high clouds will linger to the south, but fair weather skies should return by early Wednesday. Temperatures will drop below normal as winds continue to slowly decrease. Wednesday, the ridge will crest, allowing for a fair weather start to the day. As an upper-level trough sags southward, clouds will increase, and summit fog will return by Wednesday night. Instability with the trough could lead to a few isolated rain showers by sunset Wednesday, and they may linger overnight. Winds will remain close to seasonal averages Wednesday afternoon and overnight. Temperatures will drop to below normal, and when winds are factored in, wind chills will make it feel closer to freezing on bare skin. And with the cool, damp, and brisk conditions over most of the forecast period, hypothermia could develop if not adequately covered or prepared for the expected conditions.

After being down for maintenance, our pitot anemometer is back and better than ever! This pitot anemometer serves as our primary wind instrument during high wind and icing events.
