Delta Farm School is a non-traditional outdoor learning based education program designed to connect a generation of children back to nature who are spending a majority of their childhood indoors and in an overly scheduled fast paced environment.

🌻 Summer session is officially underway! We had a great week last week and are kicking things off for summer with one of my favorite themes: Flower Power Week.

Today the farm was filled with dried and fresh garden flowers, garden discoveries, flower-themed invitations to play, and of course, plenty of flower potions. 🧪🌼

While we always set out opportunities to create and explore, we try to leave plenty of room for child-led, unstructured learning too. Some children carefully arranged petals for flower pressing and sun prints, some spent their time mixing the perfect potion, and others wandered the garden collecting treasures and following their curiosity wherever it led (usually all road lead to Shelly 🐢🤪).

Because the goal isn’t for every child to create the same project or have the same experience. The goal is to spark wonder and give them the freedom to explore it.

Around here, some of the best learning happens when children are given the time and space to slow down, notice the little things, ask questions, and create their own adventures.

We’re excited to see where Flower Power Week takes us next. 🌸☀️

Here’s to a summer filled with sunshine, muddy boots, wildflowers, and the kind of childhood that can’t be rushed. 💛

One day, this will be the good old days.

The bare feet. The sand castles. The endless questions. The pockets full of treasures and the afternoons that seemed to last forever outside.

Some days, getting out the door feels like the hardest part. The packing, the planning, the snacks, the constant potty breaks, the car rides, refusing naps—it can feel like a lot for just a few hours outside or a short overnight trip to the river.

But I don’t think we’ll remember the work.

I think we’ll remember the childhood we created for them. 🤍

Maybe the most powerful thing parents can do is decide what they won’t rush.

In a world constantly asking kids to do more, be more, and grow up faster, maybe protecting childhood is one of the most important choices we can make.

At Delta Farm School, that looks like muddy boots, creek adventures, frog catching, flower picking, slow mornings and plenty of time to simply be a kid. 🤎
