Our curriculum will constantly evolve, driven by resident input, to meet the changing needs of learners in a shifting healthcare landscape. in 1977 through a collaborative agreement between Georgetown University School of Medicine (GUSOM) and Providence Hospital. Approved and accredited since 1977, our first residents joined us in 1978. We currently have twenty-one resident

s in our program. Our residents come from all over the United States. Providence Hospital is the major site for inpatient teaching in the residency program, and our residents are Providence Hospital employees. Providence is a 408-bed hospital in Washington, D.C. with an expert medical staff of more than 500 providers. Founded in 1861, Providence Hospital is the longest continuously operating hospital in the nation’s capital, and proud to be part of the Ascension Health System, the nation’s largest nonprofit health system. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art Emergency Room, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine, open MRI and 64-slice CT scanner. Several facilities serve community needs including the Carroll Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Seton House Behavioral Medicine, the Wellness Institute and the E. Ancillary services keep pace with patient needs. As a University-Administered residency program, each faculty member has a full academic appointment in the Department of Family Medicine at GUSOM. Clinical experiences for residents at Georgetown University Medical Center include Sports Medicine, Adolescent Medicine, Psychiatry and Pediatrics. Residents teach formal courses for first and second year medical students at GUSOM, and mentor third and fourth year medical students on family medicine outpatient in inpatient rotations. Residents also teach a required joint simulation workshop to third year clerkship medical students.
