Sharing a piano improvisation "Floodgates"- My son Paul, one minute before recording, told me to play from my emotions. Usually I interpret words musically, but this time, he said "Open the Floodgates". For the full version- https://youtu.be/08e95Sf_6Uw?si=g37u6lrqWOlg0wb5

My improvisations are never planned. I honestly did not know what I was going to play on this occasion. Just before filming, I opened my Bible, and this Luke passage was staring at me. I read it, but with different eyes.

The innocent c**t, the disciples' bold obedience, the all-knowing King preparing for His final entry to Jerusalem. A humble procession filled with love, palm branches in place of royal honor He alone deserved- foreshadowing the weight of what was to come.

The final entrance into Jerusalem was... so humble yet majestic, so heartbreaking, yet so victorious. I hope this music rendition speaks to your heart.

Love, Cheryl

Back in February, my son, Paul his wife, Renee Amelang, wanted to record a video of me playing a live piano improvisation at the studio at Brenham Music Academy. I had no idea what to play. But I put a dress on and showed up. I was praying, Lord, what do you want me to play? Nothing was on my heart. So I kept quiet for a bit then I was led to go in another room and open my bible to see what might inspire. I immediately opened to Luke 19 and the story of the Triumphant last entry into Jerusalem was staring at me. I read it while asking for eyes to see and ears to hear what the message was. Jesus had a way that was like no other. He could have ridden in on a gold chariot and Clydesdale horse, but he didn't. He deserved a royal red carpet but he was honored with palm branches. He knew what he was about to happen, yet He went anyway, because He trusted His Father and knew that His plan, was the best one. The people were oblivious to what was about to happen. The disciples had no idea what was about to happen, even though Jesus warned them and told them what the scriptures said. Victory over sin was about to happen in this heart wrenching beautiful moment in history. So I played my audio painting of this story, and the computer shut off without us knowing. So the sound may not be "perfect" but the cameras captured the audio well enough that I did not want to miss God on this one because the audio is not as professional as it could have been. There are wrong notes, but the sin I have committed in my lifetime, way outweighs the wrong notes I have played in my 55 years of playing piano. But Jesus... He made a way for me to be forgiven and freed from all the junk in my heart and mind and He sent His Holy Spirit here to live in me. He is here to help you now. I hope this song is a blessing to you and just remember, there is one so great who loves you so much, even when you have lost everything. He is the one to carry you in this moment. He says if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. Prayers that this song will bring comfort and hope to you. Stay tuned for the Friday release at 4:30pm on my YouTube channel:

Sometimes in a moment or day, life brings the unknowns that are God's miraculous answer to prayers prayed for a lifetime and rejoicing and gratitude flow for what is truly incredible and impossible without God! And sometimes, in a moment or a day, on the same day as the rejoicing, a storm comes that if you had been paying attention you could have better prepared for. And as a result of not paying attention, the storm destroys in a day, what you have spent a lifetime praying for. Even though... God is still God, and He is still good, and He still loves, and He sees and knows your heart. This song, was put in my thoughts when I got up yesterday. I had gone on with my day and was actually playing a different song when I heard that inner conviction ask me what happened to playing this hymn. So I abruptly stopped playing and tried to remember the name of the hymn but could not. I remembered the theme of the song so I started to google it and found it! I have not sung this song or thought of this song in probably 20 years or more. The lyrics are powerful. And I had no idea it would be the story of my day. Here is my improv. of Blest Be the Tie That Binds:

Prayerful Piano Instrumental with lyrics and recorded on April 4, 2025. During my morning prep time I heard this hymn in my thoughts and had not sung or thou...

For the most part, I am a private person. I do not usually share a lot of personal life stuff. One of the things I have kept to myself is my private worship time. I have had insecurities about my voice and my improvisations. In the past, I might record on my iPhone a musical prayer or time of worship for someone who is sick and share it on a personal basis. However, this past month has brought some challenges my way that I could not have forseen. Sometimes, hurricanes happen. Sometimes, hail comes and destroys the simple joys of a day. Sometimes, fire burns and destroys years of building and investing. Sometimes, lies comes and steals away in a minute what we have prayed and labored for our entire lives and perhaps things could have been different but we missed it for not paying attention to the warning signs. Pain in this lifetime is inevitable. It will be there waiting for us at different seasons. In those moments of pain, we have a choice to make. Are we going to feel sorrow for ourselves and wallow in self-pity because we cannot control what is happening and we don't like the current plan? Or are we going to humble ourselves and trust God and pray for forgiveness and love to be the prevailing motivation in our hearts and minds even when anger is trying to choke us and weigh us down? Today, 3-27-2025, is our youngest son's 17th birthday (Mark Samuel). I cannot believe he is one year away from being a legal voting adult. I am so grateful for all the things he does to help our family and the heavy lifting he does to help me. I was writing a note to him and one of the things I told him was how important forgiveness is and how important it is to wait on the Lord. So in this moment of life seeming upside down, I choose to wait on the Lord. We can all do this. Maybe not in the same way. We all have different skills and different thoughts and ways of expressing ourselves. But for me, I like to play piano and sing as if I am sitting in the middle of my childhood sandbox. I start with a key, and a word, and then I just jump into it and trust God to lead the way in my thoughts. It is not perfect, there are wrong notes and out of tune phrases, and words that don't rhyme. My old people pleasing self would be too embarrassed to let anyone hear the bad audio production or to play and sing in front of someone other than the Lord. But He is stripping me of my fear and care of what anyone thinks. It truly is a wild ride to not be afraid. Is my fear completely gone? Nope. But the handcuffs are loosening and the choke around my throat is not as tight. So because of this gift of freedom I have been given through Jesus, Christ, I am sharing this humble piece of me and my time with the Lord. May it be a blessing to you.
