For 40 years, the Academic Language Therapy Association has continued to grow a network of highly trained professionals dedicated to advancing dyslexia and academic language therapy across the country.

🎉We are excited to announce the newest ALTA chapter: the Pacific Northwest Chapter, bringing together members from Nevada, Oregon, and Washington to strengthen collaboration, leadership, outreach, and advocacy throughout the region.

This chapter will serve as a powerful extension of ALTA’s mission by fostering professional connections, encouraging members to serve as ALTA ambassadors, and raising awareness about dyslexia and the importance of highly trained dyslexia professionals within their states and communities.

If you are an ALTA member in Nevada, Oregon, or Washington, we encourage you to get involved and help continue the work of advancing excellence in dyslexia education and intervention.

Visit the ALTA website for chapter information, opportunities to connect, and ways to get involved.

Interrupting our Saint Patrick’s Day ☘️ celebrations for a little history lesson on some U.S. Presidents.

Did you know at least 7 U.S. Presidents are believed to
have had dyslexia?

Let that sink in.

Dyslexia is NOT a measure of intelligence.
Dyslexia is NOT a limitation.
Dyslexia does NOT disqualify leadership.

History already proved that.

According to historical accounts, these presidents showed traits consistent with dyslexia:

Thomas Jefferson – Struggled with reading and spelling early; became largely self-taught and authored the Declaration of Independence.

George Washington – Had significant difficulty with spelling and grammar but led the founding of a nation.

Andrew Jackson – Known for inconsistent spelling and once said, “It is a damn poor mind that can think of only one way to spell a word.”

Woodrow Wilson – Could not read fluently until around age 10, yet went on to become president and a Nobel Prize winner.

Dwight D. Eisenhower – Overcame reading struggles to become a 5-star general and U.S. President.

John F. Kennedy – Faced reading challenges but became one of the most influential communicators in history.

Lyndon B. Johnson – Relied on summaries of written material, showing alternative ways of processing information.

Important: Dyslexia was not formally diagnosed in earlier centuries, but historians consistently note patterns of reading and writing struggles.

So let’s stop equating reading difficulty with intelligence.

Because these weren’t just successful people—they were Presidents.

And they led nations.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

THIS IS FOR ALL OF US WHO ARE GETTING IT RIGHT!
On Dyslexia Therapists and Dyslexia Interventionists Day, we don’t just celebrate — we march forward.

We march for students who were overlooked.
We march for families who were told to wait.
We march for classrooms that need structured, science-aligned instruction.

This profession was built on courage — the courage to say that reading failure is preventable, that dyslexia is identifiable, and that explicit, cumulative instruction changes brains.

March 4th is our reminder:

We will not water down structured literacy.
We will not trade fidelity for convenience.
We will not stop advocating for early identification and intervention.

We will keep training.
We will keep educating.
We will keep raising the standard.

Because this work is not supplemental.
It is essential.

So today, we celebrate.
And tomorrow, we continue the march.

Happy March 4th — Dyslexia Therapists and Dyslexia Interventionists Day. 💙
