Join our friends over at the Kitsap Conservation District for Best Management of Practices for Stables and Horse Farms tomorrow, August 19th at Orchard Equestrian Center in Port Orchard.

Spread the word equestrian folks in Kitsap county! We have a pair of free workshops coming your way to share information regarding Best Management Practice implementation on your properties. 🐴

Our experts will be discussing a whole bunch of topics, including: Dust control techniques, mud management in frequent use areas, managing roof runoff (which attributes to mud issues!), and management of manure piles and what to do with the excess product. 💧💩

The earlier workshop is coming up soon: hosted at Orchard Equestrian Center in Port Orchard on August 19th. The event will kickoff at 6:00pm. If you can't attend that one for any reason, then there is another event on September 9th at Blue Heron Equestrian Center in Poulsbo! 📣

Join our friends at the Kitsap Conservation District, on August 12th from 6pm to 7:30pm at Winney Farm located on Bainbridge Island. They will be discussing how to best prepare your farm for the coming winter months.

We've got another workshop coming up for you all here in Kitsap County!

Hosted by our own Brian Stahl on his farm, Winney Farm located on Bainbridge Island, he will be discussing how to best prepare your farm for the coming winter months. All of us here in Kitsap know how rainy and wet the winter months can be- so preparing ahead of time for the onslaught of mud and muck that infiltrates our pastures and livestock areas is the best way to prevent problems before they arise!

Feel free to call or email Brian for more information, but we're looking forward to a good crowd of folks on his farm that evening! Come on down to hear from a local expert on how Kitsap Conservation District can support your farm with educational information and grant-funded opportunities to mitigate the mud this year!

Thanks to your generosity, we're already seeing the impact of neighbors helping neighbors.
Through Kitsap Farmers Fighting Hunger, community donations allow local farmers to grow fresh, nutritious food for people in our community who may not otherwise have access to it.
Spring marks the start of the growing season, and we're excited to see farms and fields bursting with abundance. As summer harvest reaches its peak, we'll have even more good news to share in our next update.
Until then, thank you for investing in local food, local farms, and local families. We encourage you to visit your local farmers markets, meet the growers, and enjoy some of the incredible produce being grown right here in Kitsap County. And if you're able, please consider making a donation to support this important initiative, every contribution helps a local farmer grow food for a neighbor in need.

Q2 2026 Impact (April–June)

- 2,936 pounds of fresh, locally grown vegetables were distributed to Kitsap County food banks during the first half of 2026 through the Kitsap Farmers Fighting Hunger initiative.

- Community donations supported purchases from 11 local farms, helping keep food dollars in our local agricultural economy while increasing access to fresh produce.

- Fresh vegetables reached 6 local food banks, helping connect nutritious, farm-grown food with families facing food insecurity.

Together, we're growing more than food—we're growing a stronger, more connected Kitsap community.

Thank you Kitsap Sun for running an article about Kitsap Farmers Fighting Hunger and highlighting our area farmers providing food to those in need!

Federal support for local farmers providing crops to food banks was abruptly dropped in 2025. A new Kitsap effort aims to fill the gap that was left. See link below ⬇️
