Anything popping up in the Kitsap area? We just like finding and looking at mushrooms. Doesn't have to be edible. Looking for some location suggestions.
KPMS Virtual Annual Mushroom Show this weekend!
Zoom event Saturday evening for mushroom identification for beginners, followed on Sunday with expert identification and presentations.
Details at kitsapmushrooms.org (click on the Wild Mushroom Show pic on the right side of our page for agenda, details, and Zoom links.)
Hello, I am new to foraging and was wondering if there were any seasoned foragers who would be willing to join me on a hike in the area and impart some of your wisdom. I'm not looking for secret spots or anything, just a way to make sure I'm going about learning the right way and am seeing what I think I am seeing as I try to identify fungi, both edible and dangerous.

Thank you in advance :)
Anyone wanna show a noob how to find chanterelles?
Tiny volunteer, growing out of a morel which was itself growing out of the soot of a forest fire.
Sorry or the blurry photo. Found this fungus on a fir log about a half mile up from the Hood Canal on the West side. Never seen anything like it there. The color was a bright lemon.
Hello Clubbers! I hope you all are getting out there and finding some morels! I wanted to share my mushroom mask that I made- and ask for you to please VOTE for me. This is a world-wide art mask competition. I would LOVE the vote.
Found this conk-like structure on a dying/almost dead Douglas fir tree. Anyone recognize what it is?
Greeting all! I found this while I was out this week (picked today). I believe it is a Cauliflower Corral, is that correct? It was nice and white a few days ago, before the rain! I think I am to late on the harvest though.... really soft and has some black spots.
Can I dry it and eat it?
Anyone else still finding a ton of these bad boys in good shape?

Dedicated to gathering, identifying and enjoying wild mushrooms in Western Puget Sound, Washington. The Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society is a group of people who are interested in finding, identifying, photographing, eating, and anything else you can do with a mushroom.

Learn some mushroom hunting fundamentals, like how to choose which fungi to focus on when you first start foraging and how to read weather reports with a mushroomer's eye. Then, feast your eyes and imagination on some of the more interesting fungal species in North America and get tips for finding, photographing, and then drawing them!

Please join us next Thursday to hear from Anna who does talks all over the country about mushrooms. Should be an interesting talk!

Coming up on next week's monthly member meeting the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society is proud to present "A tale of two continents" with Wendy So.

Currently a resident of Mendocino County, Wendy So was a newsletter editor and speaker coordinator for the Mycological Society of San Francisco. She has traveled with David Arora, chasing mushrooms from California to the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, American Southwest, Europe, Asia and Africa. Now she spends her free time experimenting in the kitchen with underappreciated mushrooms. She will talk about mushroom hunting and eating traditions in two mushroom-loving regions: southwest China and south-central Africa, and contrast those traditions with ours here in North America.

WOW what a night!! The lunar eclipse exposed something magical once the moon's light was completely blocked out! During the peak of the lunar eclipse last night I noticed there were glowing green logs all over Kalaloch beach!! Upon closer inspection I realized this was due to a bioluminescent fungus! It looked like something straight out of Avatar 🤯 This is different from the bioluminescent algae that causes the waves to glow blue. This is more like a mushroom growing on the dead trees that were washed up from the recent storm. They were glowing bright green, extremely visible to the naked eye!! I spent the rest of the night walking the beach finding more and more logs that were glowing bright green, like a glow-stick! This type of bioluminescence seems to follow the same rules as the glowing algae. As soon as the eclipse was over, and the moon was shining bright again, I could no longer see the logs glowing. It was such an amazing reward for a failed attempt at capturing the lunar eclipse 💚

This made it on this year's Bioluminescence Calendar!! It will be color-coded with dates best for bioluminescence viewing 💙💚
