BES Families: Please join us in welcoming our new ESS program specialist, Makenna Douglas. See a message from Makenna below.

My name is Makenna Douglas. I am a former BES student and have lived in Bremen all my life. I am married to my husband, Justin, and we have two beautiful girls, Aubree and Willa.

I enjoy going to church, taking beach trips, and spending time with my family and friends. I’m so excited to explore this new path with my Bremen family!

5th graders in Mrs. Weber’s Social Studies class wrapped up our Native American unit with a special hands-on project—creating their own totem poles to represent their families, traditions, and themselves! ❤️

Throughout the unit, students learned that some Native American peoples of the Pacific Northwest placed totem poles outside their cedar-plank homes. These poles could tell stories, represent family histories, and honor important people, animals, and traditions.

To bring that learning to life, our students created their own totem poles and wrote totem pole stories explaining the meaning behind the animals and symbols they chose to represent their families, traditions, and themselves. They then brought their totem poles and stories together to represent our 5th grade family.

Just like totem poles could help tell the story of the family inside a home, these totem poles now stand outside our classroom home to tell the story of the 5th grade family inside!

This week, third graders in Mrs. Thomas’s Discovery Lab explored plant and animal life cycles through hands-on stations. Students worked together to put life cycle stages in order, draw and label each stage, and record interesting facts. They also compared the life cycles to discover how plants and animals grow and change in similar and different ways. Our third graders were engaged and excited as they explored how living things grow and change! 🌿🐛

Clubs are a great opportunity for exploring and learning something new. We had Club Day last week, and our students had a lot of fun! They were able to choose from a variety of clubs, including crocheting, the basics of electricity, bracelet making, Pokémon, sign language, chess, dodgeball, legos, food, bucket golf and many more. Thank you to our staff and community volunteers for making clubs a success!
