🌟August 20 Board Meeting Highlights 🌟

On Aug. 20, the BOUSD Board of Education held their regular meeting. The meeting began with 2026-2027 Student Board Member Grant Ahn taking his Oath of Office and sitting in his first public meeting. The Board was pleased to welcome Grand and looks forward to the positive contributions he will make this year.

🔹Superintendent Leon also recognized Brea Junior High 7th grader, Logan Thielen. As seen in previous social media posts, Logan is headed to the National stage to compete in the National Civics Bee Competition. During his recognition, Logan thanked members of BOUSD's administrative team and the Board for their support, and he shared more about his project on creative learning methods. Logan is a true definition of the .

🔹Measure H Progress: Brea Junior High Modernization Schematic Design Update - Assistant Superintendent Rick Champion, joined by PJHM Architects, provided an update on the schematic design for BJHS's Modernization Project. The presentation highlighted key project areas through photos and renderings, providing an overview of the proposed improvements and design direction. 🔹The District also presented an overview of enrollment trends and demographic data to help establish a shared understanding of how enrollment is changing across BOUSD and the broader region. The presentation focused on four key objectives: Understanding the demographic and enrollment trends, contextualizing those trends against county and statewide patterns, anticipating how enrollment changes may affect schools over time, and preparing for a deeper strategic conversation with the Board.

From a borrowed history book to the national stage.

Brea Junior High School seventh-grader Logan Thielen will represent California at the National Civics Bee Championship in Washington, D.C., this fall after earning first place at the state competition.

The 13-year-old earned the honor with a proposal focused on bringing creative learning approaches into classrooms and has since shared his ideas with education and community leaders.
