✨ Staff Pick: Sands of Time by Randi Solin

Inspired by a dream of silently soaring over vast sand dunes, Sands of Time brings the movement and beauty of the desert into glass.

Randi created this piece on the blow pipe, carefully layering different shades of powdered grey glass to create its swirling, sand-like patterns. The result is subtle, calming, and mesmerizing that you can almost imagine looking down over endless dunes from above.

A beautiful piece that invites you to slow down and take a second look. 🤍

We are so proud of Natalie and her team! Spreading Natalie Blake Studios amazing art around this big beautiful world. Well Done! 😍

From the studio to the guest rooms of Katara Towers.

One of the most meaningful parts of this project was seeing Curved Winds in its final setting. The individually handcrafted tiles were placed throughout the guest rooms, allowing each guest to experience a portion of the larger design.

The concept was inspired by the ever-shifting sands of Qatar and the movement of wind across the dunes. Each room contains a piece of the larger image, so that the complete dune emerges only through the collective experience of the guests.

It was an incredible honor to see the work become part of such a significant project.

Meet Elke Van D**e, a New York-based artist whose jewelry carries the spirit of the places, textures, and adventures that inspire her.

There’s something elemental in Elke’s work: the warmth of flame-torched copper, the cool depth of turquoise patina, the raw geometry of hematite, the quiet gleam of sterling silver. Her pieces feel collected from somewhere between land and sea, then transformed by hand into wearable art.

From the oceanic balance of the Deep Swell Earrings to the layered, four-day patina of the Minimes Cuff, each piece invites you to look a little closer. The Hematite Rose Gold Wishbone Threaders bring a darker, more sculptural edge, while the Seascape Lariat pairs weathered textures and turquoise with an effortless, understated elegance.

But perhaps what makes Elke’s work most compelling is the sense of movement behind it. Her creative life and spirit of adventure find their way into every piece she creates.

A little glassblowing studio update. 🔥

During this year’s annual furnace maintenance, Randi made an unexpected discovery. After 28 years of faithful service, her beloved furnace couldn’t simply be fired back up. It would need a full reconstruction before it could safely run again.

It’s never easy to say goodbye to a piece of equipment that has been part of so much making, learning, and creating.

Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there. Randi and her team had another furnace on hand, and they’ve been able to rebuild it and get the studio moving again while she explores the best options for the future.

A reminder that behind every beautiful piece of glass is a whole lot of heat, craft, problem-solving and sometimes, a little improvisation.

We’ll keep you posted as the studio finds its next chapter.
