This June, students in the Doctorate in Global Education program took part in an in-person residency in Washington, D.C.

While in the nation's capital, they discussed key issues in global education, engaged with guest speakers, and met with experts at the Center for Universal Education at The Brookings Institution and the Global Campaign For Education-US. These hands-on experiences gave them opportunities to explore how research, policy, advocacy, and global governance influence education worldwide.

Fall 2026 is underway at SIT Graduate Institute!

This semester, we are pleased to welcome a new cohort of master’s and doctoral students, as well as returning doctoral students continuing their research and studies.

Across disciplines and locations, SIT students will examine complex global challenges, engage with diverse perspectives, and connect academic inquiry with practice. We look forward to the learning, research, and ideas that will take shape throughout the semester.

Students in SIT’s Global Master of Arts in Humanitarian Assistance & Crisis Management explore that question through immersive learning in Jordan, Turkey, and Morocco. Along the way, they connect classroom learning with real-world perspectives on humanitarian response, displacement, policy, advocacy, and crisis management.

Current Sustainable Development Practice student Isabel Langlois-Romero takes us behind the scenes of her practicum:

"With our final semester here, my classmates and I are in full swing working on our practicums and research capstones. Through a twist of fate, I came to support Kara Solar’s incredible work on solar river transportation. For me, this meant coming back to Ecuador and living in Quito, commuting to their office and supporting on research. I was able to perform combustion fuel analyses on existing river transport, support the development of monitoring and evaluation methodologies, and complete an acoustic health, biodiversity, and water quality monitoring research proposal. I am inspired by the work at Kara Solar, so when I was invited to a capacity building event in Puyo before starting my field research - I didn’t hesitate. At the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador’s (CONAIE) headquarters in Puyo, several organizations came together to support over 40 youth leaders from 11 different indigenous nationalities of the Amazon to learn about just transitions and renewable energy. Kara Solar directors, territory coordinators, and technician’s led a full day of exchange on how solar rivers can act of a pathways for indigenous sovereignty, and they proceeded to demo the technical installation of a solar array at the headquarters. Witnessing the exchange of knowledge and support from organizations like Sacred Earth (a Canadian indigenous organization) reminds us that belonging and solidarity migrate beyond borders and that investing in our next generation has to built into our work. "
