Don’t let the name fool you—that “beard” isn’t hair at all! Bearded dragons have rows of spiny scales under their throats that they can puff out when communicating or trying to look bigger. Native to Australia, these reptiles are omnivores, enjoying a variety of plants and insects, and they rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature.

Meet Brownie… or Delaney, depending on who you ask!

She may be soft and adorable, but rabbits are full of fascinating adaptations. Their large ears provide excellent hearing and also help regulate body temperature, while their powerful hind legs are built for quick movement. And those constantly growing teeth? Rabbits need plenty of fibrous foods to naturally wear them down.

Annual shedding of the velvet. Velvet shedding: Once the antlers have hardened, the velvet dries and begins peeling away. Bucks often rub their antlers vigorously against trees, branches, posts, and other sturdy objects to remove it. During this stage, you may see strips of velvet hanging from the antlers or blood staining the antlers. It can look alarming, but a small amount of blood is normal because the velvet was previously supplied by many blood vessels.

Fall — hard-antler stage: After the velvet is completely removed, the buck has clean, hardened antlers for the rut. Fallow deer typically rut in the fall, and bucks use their antlers for displays and competition with other males.

The world’s largest rodent—and quite possibly the most relaxed!

Capybaras are native to South America and are perfectly designed for life around the water. Their partially webbed feet make them excellent swimmers, and they can even stay underwater for several minutes when needed. They’re also incredibly social animals, often living together in groups and communicating with whistles, chirps, barks, and purr-like sounds.

Small monkey, BIG personality!

Meet Chiquita, our squirrel monkey! Squirrel monkeys may be tiny, but they’re incredibly active, intelligent primates. Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, they spend much of their time climbing, leaping, foraging, and communicating with their troop. Their long tails help with balance as they move through the trees—but unlike some monkeys, they can’t use them to grab branches!

Those tails aren’t just for looks!

Ring-tailed lemurs use their unmistakable black-and-white striped tails for balance and as a visual signal to help keep their troop together. Native only to Madagascar, these highly social primates spend more time on the ground than most lemur species and communicate using sounds, body language, and scent.
