The past couple of weeks we have been learning all about first aid and preparing for emergencies. Huge shout out to Jamie Ely for setting up a CPR class to help our students learn hands on techniques that could save a life! They all took it very seriously and did so great!

✨STRIVE STUDENT SPOTLIGHT✨

Akira S. 🤩

Strengths- Akira is very sweet and soft spoken. She will do anything that is asked of her and always has a smile on her face doing it. She gets along well with everyone and is a great team player! She is very encouraging and loving and we are so excited to have her this year!

Interests- Akira loves to shoot the basketball in the gym and get on her tablet. She loves to paint and draw pictures! She loves to cook and go bowling as well! She loves to dance and sing to videos on the Smartboard.

Future Goals- Akira wants to get a job helping people! She said she would love to work at a daycare!

Today was awesome! We got to serve a packed out Backwater Grill Taphouse and Oyster Bar!! We helped set up tables, seat guests, get refills, helped prepare plates, cleaned up tables/reset them and so much more! The STRIVE crew is exhausted but so ready to go back next Friday! Thank you for all the people who came out to support us and thank you to Backwater Grill for this awesome opportunity for work experience. It will help them gain so many great skills!

Our first official volunteer day at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science was awesome! We got to have our snake friend Elvis out with us and tell people all about him. We also told visitors about different animals that can be found around the area. We helped some children color different animals and sketch dinosaurs. Our STRIVE crew helped set up and take down all of the furniture/materials! It was a great day!

✨STRIVE STUDENT SPOTLIGHT✨

Austin B. 🤩

Strengths- Austin loves to make people laugh by learning and telling new jokes! He is very responsible and always brings the materials he needs for the day. He is very personable and gets along with everyone. He takes initiative and is a hard worker. He will do whatever is asked of him!

Interests- Austin loves to play the guitar and sing! He is great at shooting a basketball and enjoys going to play in the gym. He is very interested in music and learning about different singers, especially country artists! He likes baseball, golf and bowling as well! One of his favorite things to do is decorate the yard with holiday inflatables for Halloween, Christmas and Easter!

Future Goals- Austin wants to one day work at a guitar store or the bowling alley!

We have had such a great start to the school year!! We have made some awesome pottery pieces, cooked some delicious meals and have had a blast hanging and getting to know each other! We had the best time going to Wendy’s and the Mississippi Mud Monsters baseball game with our friends in the Florence HS Transition Class! We also got to hang with their group at The Spot Downtown A Rankin County School District Program to socialize and get some good treats! This is such a good group and we can’t wait to keep bonding and having great experiences!!

We are so excited to get back in the swing of things for the 2026-2027 school year! Be on the lookout for introductions of our students coming soon!

Big thanks to our new friend Ericka and the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science for letting the crew come tour today and get some insight on some of the things we will be doing during our volunteer days! We can’t wait to get started!

✨STRIVE AWARDS DAY✨
Today was about celebrating all of the hard work that our young adults have put into the STRIVE I & II programs! Thank you to everyone who came out today to support us and for all who have supported us throughout the year! It was such a special time acknowledging all of the accomplishments these students have made and awarding all of their talents and unique gifts! Thank you to all of the families for the love and support you have given us and to all of the educators who have helped them get here today! We love each and every one of our students and can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for our ones completing the program this year 💜
