Healthcare shouldn't be something you put off because you can't get an appointment or you're worried about the cost. Direct primary care is an option more people should know about.

Papaya is here for you in Brandon, rain or shine. 😉🌧️

Okay, this is pretty cool. 🤓 I’m playing around with a new feature in the Libre app called Libre Assist, and it takes Libre 3 plus CGM data + AI into some interesting territory.

Libre Assist lets you snap a picture of a meal (or type it in), then generates an AI prediction of the potential glucose impact from the food, giving personalized suggestions to help flatten out after meal spikes before you take the first bite.

Even more exciting, the app links to your actual sensor glucose data to show how your body actually responded.

Is it perfect? No. Since it's generative AI predictions might not be accurate and your judgement is needed before making any treatment decisions. But as a tool for learning your own patterns? This takes food logging to a whole new level!

It's my birthday today, but I'm also celebrating an important milestone.

Two years ago I formed the LLC for Papaya Primary Care.

There was no clinic yet. No patients. I knew I wanted to follow the direct care model, but beyond that, I was determined and mostly winging it! 😂

I learned as I went, pivoted along the way, and slowly shaped Papaya into something special. It's a place where I can truly provide healthcare the way it was meant to be.

Time to listen. To think.
To tailor the plan for the person sitting in front of me.

I'm proud of what I've built and grateful for the people who have been a part of it.
Here's to another year of care over codes in the health record.

PS: Thanks Hint Health for the hat!

Counting carbs is not an exact science. Using a food scale can help us figure out if an insulin to carb ratio is still working.

In this video, learn how to use a nutrition facts label, a food scale, and a little middle-school math to calculate the actual carbohydrates in a specific food portion.

Is this something I expect someone with diabetes to do for every meal? Absolutely not.

When we're troubleshooting blood sugar patterns, getting this precise for a short period can give us useful information. Sometimes it's not that carb counts that are off, but it's the insulin to carb ratio that needs another look.

I love getting my hands on new diabetes technology, so naturally I had to try the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus CGM along with my Dexcom G7. 🤓

I found them to be pretty comparable, loved that this one updates readings every minute. The Libre 3 plus has an easy one-handed applicator, the sensor is small, and lasts up to 15 days. This sensor can be used solo or paired with various insulin pumps and smart insulin pens.

Many people with diabetes are skeptical about using sensors for the first time. Usually, they love the data, actionable alerts, and real time information CGM provides. Tech like this can also show patterns that would otherwise be missed.

Is a CGM for everyone? Not necessarily. But for many people, having this kind of information can be a game changer. The number is just the beginning. Once you can see patterns, you can start figuring out what to do with it.

Sometimes the most important part of diabetes technology isn't the tech... it's knowing what to do when it fails.

I accidentally ripped out my last insulin pump infusion set as the plane doors were closing. Here's how a little preparation and a diabetes education helped me make it home safely.
