In recognition of her dedication and service to students, families, and colleagues, Meade County Schools is proud to announce Mrs. Anita Hobbs of Barry Hahn Primary School as the 2026 Classified Team Member of the Year and recipient of the prestigious Fred Award. Known affectionately by many students as “Mrs. Anita,” she is recognized for the joy, kindness, and servant heart she brings to her work each day.

For many families, Mrs. Anita is one of the first faces their children encounter as they begin their journey in Meade County Schools. Each morning, she welcomes students with a smile and an enthusiasm that helps children feel safe, valued, and excited to come to school. One nominator, whose older children were supported by Mrs. Hobbs more than a decade ago and whose youngest child now sees her each morning, shared that Mrs. Anita is a big part of why her children have loved school from the very beginning.

Her care extends far beyond her assigned responsibilities. Mrs. Hobbs is known for stepping in wherever help is needed and for finding quiet ways to encourage others. She often leaves small gifts for coworkers without taking credit or expecting recognition, simply wanting others to know they are appreciated. Even ordinary moments become opportunities to serve, whether helping a parent who forgot a child’s snack or offering reassurance when someone needs it most.

BHP Principal Jenna Brown praised Mrs. Hobbs’ impact, sharing that “Anita brings an unmistakable sense of joy and care to Barry Hahn Primary every day. She has a special way of making children and adults feel welcomed, supported, and valued. Her willingness to serve wherever she is needed and her genuine love for people make her an extraordinary member of our BHP family.”

Personnel Director Janette Schmidt reflected on the qualities that make Mrs. Hobbs so deserving of the Fred Award, noting that “Anita demonstrates the impact one person can have simply by choosing every day to serve others with kindness and joy. She does more than what is expected, looks for ways to encourage the people around her, and never seeks recognition for herself. She represents the very best of ‘Students First, Team Always’ and the spirit we hope to see in every member of our team.”

Mrs. Hobbs’ recognition as Classified Team Member of the Year highlights the important role classified employees play in shaping students' and families' experiences. Her work demonstrates that making a difference does not always require a grand gesture. Often, people remember the consistent smile, helping hand, encouraging word, or quiet act of kindness most.

Each spring, an awards committee made up of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from across the district. Nominees may then choose to complete an application for competitive consideration.

During Opening Day Ceremonies earlier this month, Meade County Schools proudly recognized Mrs. Tara Keen, Special Education Teacher at Stuart Pepper Middle School, as the 2026 Special Education Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Keen was recognized for the individualized and thoughtful way she supports students with disabilities. Her nomination highlighted her ability to adapt instruction based on each student’s strengths, needs, and goals while ensuring accommodations and modifications are meaningfully integrated into daily learning. Through visual supports, flexible grouping, structured routines, and targeted interventions, she makes learning accessible and meaningful for every student.

Her commitment also extends beyond academics. Mrs. Keen creates a classroom environment rooted in respect, empathy, and belonging, while helping students build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills. She works closely with general education teachers, families, therapists, and other specialists to provide consistent support across settings.

SPMS Principal Dr. David Phillips praised Mrs. Keen’s impact, sharing that “Tara has a remarkable ability to see each student as an individual and build the support around them that helps them succeed. She is thoughtful, collaborative, and deeply committed to ensuring students feel both challenged and supported.”

Director of Special Education Mrs. Carole Brown added that “Tara Keen represents the very best of special education. Her strong instruction, meaningful relationships, collaboration, and advocacy help ensure that students are not simply included, but truly belong and have every opportunity to reach their full potential.”

Mrs. Keen’s recognition as Special Education Teacher of the Year reflects her dedication to individualized instruction, inclusive education, and helping every student experience success and belonging.

During Opening Day Ceremonies earlier this month, Meade County Schools proudly recognized Mrs. Noel Pack, Agriculture Teacher at Meade County High School, as the 2026 Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Pack, now in her 17th year of teaching agriculture, was recognized for the many ways she helps students succeed both in and out of the classroom. Her nomination highlighted the warmth she brings to her classroom, her ability to make students of all levels feel welcomed and supported, and her commitment to going above and beyond to help them succeed. Her approach reflects the district’s standard of “Students First, Team Always.”

Her nominator described Mrs. Pack as an educator who consistently provides students with opportunities to grow through FFA, community service, competitions, leadership activities, and connections throughout the community. She works closely with community members and organizations to create meaningful experiences that help students build confidence, develop leadership skills, and prepare for life beyond high school. Her influence often continues long after students leave her classroom, with former students remembering the opportunities and experiences that helped shape their success.

MCHS Principal Garrett Frank said Mrs. Pack’s approach reflects her deep investment in students, noting that “Mrs. Pack has an incredible ability to connect with students and create opportunities that allow them to grow as learners, leaders, and young adults. She is deeply invested in her students, and the impact of her work reaches far beyond the agriculture classroom.”

Superintendent Dr. Mark Martin emphasized the lasting impact of teachers like Mrs. Pack, sharing that “Noel Pack represents the very best of what we hope teaching can be. She understands that education is about more than what happens during a class period. It is about relationships, experiences, opportunities, and helping students see what is possible for their future. We are extremely proud to recognize her as our Teacher of the Year.”

Mrs. Pack’s recognition as Teacher of the Year is a testament to her unwavering dedication to students, her leadership at Meade County High School, and her deep investment in the Meade County community.

As Meade County Schools’ 2026 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Pack will also move forward as the district’s nominee for Kentucky Teacher of the Year.

Meade County Schools is opening its doors and inviting community members to join us for a Community Walk inside our schools. This is an opportunity to experience a typical school day, see learning in action, and connect with the incredible work happening in our classrooms.

There’s no cost to attend, but space is limited because it takes place during the school day. All participants will complete our school visitor process, including a background check, to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

It is with great pride that Meade County Schools recognizes Mrs. Yolanda Hobbs as a 2026 Greenwave Legacy Award Honoree.

To generations of Meade County students and employees, she is known simply and respectfully as “Mrs. Hobbs.”

Longtime Meade County educators Peggy Darnall and Doug Cornett introduced Mrs. Hobbs, who worked alongside them during the earliest years of Meade County Middle School. Together, they reflected on the remarkable role she played in building the school's culture and foundation from the beginning.

When Meade County Middle School opened in 1978, the building itself was still under construction. Mrs. Hobbs began her work in a temporary office housed in the library, equipped with little more than a typewriter, telephone, and legal pad. From that beginning, she became the person students, families, and staff could depend on.

She served as receptionist, bookkeeper, attendance clerk, purchasing agent, records keeper, and so much more. But her greatest contribution could never be captured in a job description.

For more than 25 years, Mrs. Hobbs was a constant presence at the middle school, supporting four principals, hundreds of staff members, and thousands of students before retiring in 2004.

Known for her extraordinary work ethic, kindness, humility, loyalty, compassion, grace, and sense of humor, Mrs. Hobbs helped make the middle school feel like a family. As Darnell and Cornett shared, she was not simply part of the school. She was the heart of it.

Mrs. Hobbs did not simply leave a legacy. She lived one through a lifetime of commitment, dedication, and service.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆: 𝗙𝗮𝘆𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹

It is with great pride that Meade County Schools recognizes Mrs. Faye Campbell as a 2026 Greenwave Legacy Award Honoree.

Mrs. Campbell devoted more than four decades to education, including a remarkable career at the Meade County Area Technology Center. She began teaching there in January 1978 and later became principal, ultimately retiring in 2019 with more than 43 years of service in the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System.

Mrs. Campbell was introduced by longtime Meade County educator Darren Jones, who is beginning his 32nd year serving the district. Having known and worked alongside Mrs. Campbell for nearly four decades, Jones described her as an advocate for vocational training, an educator, an administrator, a dear friend, and his “second mama.”

Throughout her career, Mrs. Campbell was a tireless advocate for career and technical education and for the students who found their passion and purpose through it. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom and principal’s office through her longtime involvement with SkillsUSA, where she continues to serve students today as a board member, competition judge, coach, and alumni member.

Her influence can be measured in the thousands of students who walked through the doors of the Area Technology Center, the educators she encouraged, and the programs she helped strengthen for generations to come.

Thank you, Mrs. Campbell, for a lifetime of leadership, service, and unwavering belief in the value of career and technical education.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆: 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱

It is with great pride that Meade County Schools recognizes Mrs. Darlene Board as a 2026 Greenwave Legacy Award Honoree.

Mrs. Board dedicated 28 years to the students of Meade County Schools, teaching at both the original and current Flaherty Elementary School and serving students in grades 1 through 5 and Title I. Even after retiring from the classroom in 2008, her service continued through substitute teaching and later in the office at Flaherty Primary School.

But Mrs. Board’s legacy cannot simply be measured in years.

More than four decades ago, Amy English was a first-grade student in Mrs. Board’s classroom. Today, Amy is beginning her 27th year serving Meade County Schools, and this fall, both of her daughters are beginning teaching careers of their own in our district.

That is legacy.

Mrs. Board taught generations of children, cared for families, and showed her students through both words and actions that they were safe, valued, and loved. Her influence continues today in the lives of the students, educators, and families she touched along the way.

Thank you, Mrs. Board, for a lifetime of service and for reminding us that the greatest legacy of an educator is found in the lives they shape, the relationships they build, and the generations they inspire.

Meade County Schools is proud to share that Mr. Marc Adams will serve as President of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) for the 2026–2027 year.

KASA is Kentucky’s largest organization of public school leaders, representing over 3,000 members from every school district across the Commonwealth. Throughout the year, KASA brings education leaders together through advocacy, professional learning, collaboration, and leadership development to strengthen Kentucky’s public schools.

In this role, Mr. Adams will work alongside school and district leaders from across the state to advocate for students, support Kentucky’s education leaders, and help move public education forward.

We are proud to have Mr. Adams represent Meade County Schools and our community in this statewide leadership role. Congratulations, Mr. Adams!

Each year, we ask families to complete school forms, and now is a great time to do so. All forms are completed online through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal—no more paper, and only one submission per household, even if you have multiple students.

These forms are required for every student and help us:
✅ Continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all students
✅ Provide access to school health services
✅ Make sure your child is included in the yearbook and other school events
✅ Support the programs and services that benefit every student
