Carol & Mike Owens TWH's and Farm
These are our horses and small farm that we own in Brandenburg, Ky.
Our goal is simply to raise the best foals out of our broodmares that were purchased for this purpose using the best stallions to produce both flat shod and performance horses.
Well 2020 is finally over and we can all look forward to a better 2021. The past show season started out as a lamb but ended like a lion. An amazing job from all the folks who showed and to all the people responsible for the amazing shows we had. I want to thank each of you for the hard work done, it will certainly be a year to remember and one we will talk about for years to come! A BIG THANK YOU TO BRAD BEARD and DB Cooper, Brad as usual was right when asking me to geld DB, after being gelding DB was shown 6 times with 1 First, 2 Seconds, 2 Thirds and a 10th out of 22 entries in his class at the Celebration with 1 of the 5 judges not tying him, but that is another story. Those things happen :) Wishing all the best 2021 and LET UM WALK ON!!!!!

One of the hardest decisions we have had to make was whether to geld our 3 year old stallion DB Cooper that we purchased as a long yearling and immediately sent him to Brad Beard to train. Brad showed him in the Two Year Old Stallions RC classes and he had a nice year, never did as well as we knew he could but all in all was a good year. This spring started out much like last year, good, but not as good as he had shown he could be. DBs problem wasn't talent, talent he has plenty of, his problem was somewhere between his ears. Brad called me one morning and said he wanted me to think about gelding DB. That was something I really did not want to think about, but I told Brad I would get back with him. I labored with it all day and that night (woke up about 3 in the morning) and remembered something that I had learned as a teenager some 55 years ago. An old gentleman by the name of Earl Scott probably knew more about walking horses as any human living, and told me this. "Mike there are a few great stallions and a lot of good stallions that will never be great." I ask then why are there so many good stallions still being shown? he smiled at me and said " because they don't realize that a good stallion can or will make a great gelding". I called Brad and gave him permission to have him gelded the next morning, he has been shown twice since then finishing 3 in his first class back and 1st in Wartrace, the talent was still there but the mindset change has been remarkable. Food for thought.
Anyway here IS DB Cooper!

Then there is Carols' girl Buckskin Boogie foaled April 29, 2011. She and Chicky have been together since Chicky was a yearling, Shes gentle as a puppy, not well bred but loved as much as the goodens. Boogie had her first foal on May 21, 2018. She was bred to Blue Blooded Bandit, it was a shock to wake up and find a beautiful palomino filly standing beside her.
