In his latest TA Talk, Middle School history teacher and coach Danny Seymour shared a story of resilience, leadership and finding purpose in the unexpected.

After a serious baseball injury during his senior year at Middlebury College changed his athletic career, Danny discovered that the leadership and connection he built with his teammates had a lasting impact — ultimately inspiring him to become an educator.

Sixteen years later, that experience continues to shape the teacher, coach and mentor he is today. “I had found a grind worth grinding. I had found a grind that inspired me.”

The Thayer Global Speaker Series continues on Tuesday, October 20, with an evening featuring Leo Varadkar, former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland. A medical doctor and graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Varadkar served as Prime Minister from 2017–2020 and again from 2022–2024.

Join us at 7:00 p.m. in Hale Theater for an opportunity to hear from Varadkar and engage in thoughtful conversation around global leadership and issues that matter to the world. Link in bio for more information.

Families of students entering grades 5–11 will get an inside look at the Thayer experience — from hearing directly from faculty and students to connecting with coaches, team captains, current families, admissions and financial aid representatives, and exploring campus on a guided tour.

As our second Global Speaker Series event, Thayer was honored to welcome musician and human rights activist Arn Chorn-Pond to campus. A survivor of the Cambodian genocide and former child soldier, Arn shared his powerful story of survival, resilience, and the transformative power of music.

Through personal stories, music from his bamboo flute, and a message rooted in kindness, love, and unity, Arn challenged our students to consider the impact they can have on the world around them.

Thank you, Arn, for sharing your story and reminding our community that we all have the power to choose kindness and create change.

This past weekend, Thayer celebrated four outstanding inductees — two individuals and two championship teams — during the Evening of Alumni Excellence.

As Athletic Director Bobbi Moran shared with the inductees: “Every student-athlete who wears the black and orange tomorrow will carry on the legacy that you built.”
