"Music Play" for little people is an early childhood music education program for children 6 months through 6 years. We use our "sing and play" approach through activities which incorporate singing, movement and the use of rhythm instruments such as rhythm sticks, a wide variety of drums, triangles, finger tambourines, shaker eggs and more! "Music play" has an important role in the early musical experience of babies and young children, as it teaches them individuality and creativity. At King Music Loves Kids!, children are shown how to play with sound and our "music play" activities are chosen to reinforce the idea that children can sing, dance and invent with sound just as they can with words or blocks. Our program runs in 8-week long sessions for most of the year with a 10-week session during the spring. Classes range in length from 30 - 45 minutes, meet one time weekly, and are focused on bringing musical activities into the daily routines of babies and children. Our program is also parent involved from the age of 6 months - 2 years. We encourage the children to become more independent during the classes at age 3. Aside from improving your child's love of music, our program has the potential to develop and encourage the following skills: cognitive, communication, motor, preacademic, social and of course, music. Parents should call the King Music Loves Kids! office regarding tuition, enrollment fee, and instrument/binder kit prices. We also offer a free class to all those parents and children interested in our classes who would love to make sure it is the right choice for them. All prospective students are invited to attend as a guest during one of our existing classes once week 2 of each session has begun. Just call our office and reserve a spot during an age-appropriate class. Note: Attending a class at the beginning of a new session will NOT count as a free class. The session must already be in progress and must not be filled to maximum capacity. Specific class information:
Baby Play, Baby Sing! class for babies 6-12 months - 30 minutes - This class is designed to entertain your baby while he/she learns and explores with music through our rhythm-based songs, chants and massages. Parents assist babies with class activities to interact with their infant and learn the songs, so they may "sing and play" babies' favorites at home. Babies will enjoy the lap rhymes, circle games, scarves and puppet animals that are incorporated into this stimulating class, developed to encourage rhythm, expressive language, early motor skills, parent/child bonding, and much more. Tunes for Tots! 1&2s class - 30 minutes - This class is for all one year old children, as well as two year olds who are not yet ready to graduate to the next class. You and your toddler will "sing and play" with songs involving movement, vocalization, and rhythm instruments. Parents will assist children in activities lead by the teacher. Young children will enjoy the creative songs about seasons, animals, places and people, developed to encourage rhythm, expressive and receptive language, motor skills, vocal skills, following directions, early academics, socialization, parent/child interaction and more. Tunes for Tots! 2&3s class - 40 minutes - This class is designed for the two year old child who is developmentally ready to begin using some skills that require self-control. As with the 1&2s class, the 2&3s will "sing and play" using songs, movement and rhythm instruments. These instruments will be located where the child can use more independence in transition between songs while also using their sorting skills to locate the instruments and put them away when the activity is finished. Activities in this age group become a little more challenging but appropriate to the population. Children in this class will be given an opportunity to improve their independence, self-control and listening skills as they learn to follow directions while transitioning between activities. Developmental skills such as language, cognition, socialization and motor will also continue to build during these classes. Tunes for Tots! 3&4s class - 40 minutes - Your preschooler will "sing and play" in a structured music class using songs, movement and various rhythm instruments as they begin to learn more about instrument sounds, creative play, story songs, activities involving multiple instruments, solo-singing, and teamwork. Activities for this class were developed and chosen to encourage listening skills, expressive and receptive language, vocal skills, motor planning, rhythm, early academics, socialization, turn-taking, self-confidence and imagination. We encourage children to become more independent at this age and participate without their parents. Children will participate with the other students and teacher as a group. Parents may view this class from inside the music room. Students who have a difficult time adjusting to the group circle may have their parents sit with them until they are comfortable to participate on their own. (5&6s) - 45 minutes - Your child will "sing and play" with the teacher and other students while participating in age-specific activities involving a variety of rhythm instruments, movement, singing, music theory, and creative songwriting. Children will gain advanced knowledge of rhythm instruments and their sounds, learn early songwriting skills, be encouraged to display independence in their singing or instrument choices and be introduced to activities involving motor planning, stories, solo-singing, and academics. Individuality will be encouraged as well as teamwork when appropriate. Parents are allowed to view this class from inside the music room.
