Dear Second Grade Families,

Schools will be closing to students at the end of the school day on Tuesday--per order of the Governor. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the sadness and uncertainty we all feel at this time. This is not the school year that any of us had hoped for, but working together we will get through this challenge. The joy of working with students is what brought us to this profession. It is what drives us on a daily basis. We also know that for students and families, the social fabric of school is incredibly important developmentally, academically, and practically. Over the past few days we have worked diligently to provide you with materials to maintain current learning, with the goal of moving towards continuation of learning as time progresses. The education provided in our classrooms can’t be replicated remotely, but we will do our best to provide resources and options for you.
You should have found two colored packets that went home with your child yesterday. One was labeled ‘Reading and Writing’ and the other was labeled ‘Math’. Please note that this is only about three weeks worth of work and should only take a few hours a day to complete. In addition to the work packets we have also provided all log in information for the following remote learning programs: EPIC!, Spelling City, Scholastic, Xtra Math and Hour of Code. In addition to these resources you can also access anything under the Bradford Elementary School website for further practice.

It was a cold morning at BES. The perfect kind of morning for some science! We've been learning about states of matter so this mornings frigid temperature was perfect for a little water experiment. We watched water change from a liquid to a gas in the air. We also got to see it turn from a liquid to a solid on the ground!

Today in the woods we talked about what animals do to survive the winter. We played migration tag. The taggers were hazards that migrating animals would face. We also worked on our fort building skills to build a bear den to hibernate in. Finally we talked about the ways that animals have to adapt if they stay in Vermont and are active throughout the winter.

Good evening second grade families,
We wanted to let you know that our ROBO call isn't up and functioning yet so in the event of a delay or cancelation please watch e-mail and the news in the morning. If we hear anything we will be sure to pass along the news as soon as we know!
Hopefully your kiddos got the chance to get outside and play in it before it gets ruined by the freezing rain!
