Project Tip: Have a library card? You can access a variety of resources (many online) for your project using the Manatee County Public Library System.

To support students in preparing for Manatee History Day, we are introducing a new series designed to assist with their projects.

Understanding the difference between primary and secondary sources is essential. Primary sources are materials created during the historical event you are studying. Examples include eyewitness accounts, letters, diaries, speeches, photographs, paintings, maps, and original documents found in reputable online sources. In contrast, secondary sources are created by individuals who were not present at the event. These include history textbooks, biographies, works by historians, and articles from credible websites.

Project Tip: When researching your Manatee History Day topic, prioritize using primary sources whenever possible.

Manatee History Day student and teacher registration is now open! 📜 Manatee History Day is a county-wide history competition that encourages students, grades 6 – 12, in public, charter, private, and homeschool to compete. In order to register, you must be sponsored by a teacher, and teachers have the option to sponsor multiple students. Check out our website for more information and if you have any questions ask them below!

This past Saturday, we celebrated and recognized the students who competed in this year's Manatee History Day competition. They have worked hard for the past few months, curating exhibit boards, documentaries, websites and papers to coincide with this year's theme, 'Revolution, Reaction, and Reform.' Thank you to our judges, teachers, students, and donors who help make this program possible.

We have some important upcoming dates for students participating in Manatee History Day!
-This Saturday is Exhibit Board Judging. Please drop off your exhibit boards before 10:00 AM.
-February 23–28: Exhibit boards may be picked up anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
-Saturday, February 28: Join us for the Awards Ceremony! We hope you and your family will celebrate your hard work and placement in this year’s Manatee History Day competition.
