Very nice update letter from Grace Mahenge at St. Jude School about our sponsored student, Zulfa!!

Dear Evan and the Heckman family,

Krismasi njema from St Jude's!

We have had the pleasure of communicating with many of you this year and as we wrap up the year (pun intended!), this is a final note to say thank you from us to you for YOUR generosity and thoughtfulness.

To our nearly 3,000 sponsors, we also thank you for your patience as our team endeavor to be the timely and informative link between you and the student (or students) whose academic scholarship you sponsor. We hope you can celebrate this festive season, knowing that together we are fighting poverty through education in a country where only 1 in 3 students starting primary school will ever complete secondary school. Wherever you are or wherever you are spending this holiday season we trust you are looking forward to 2019.

Be it family time, adventure, relaxation, sunshine or snow maybe – we hope it will be fulfilling. Here in Arusha, we are looking forward to our school community’s next big event: * Form 6 Graduation on Saturday 25 May 2019 as always, you are welcome to join us because we love visitors! School is officially out for the summer and we look forward to welcoming our students back on the 7th January 2019.

Zulfa has officially completed a key milestone in her education having recently undertaken the Form 6 Mock Examinations! This means she won’t have an end of term report as the focus this term has been on her Mock Examinations, rather than on class assessments; however we will certainly be in touch in the New Year, to keep you abreast of her progress and plans.

Wishing you a restful, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas from the Sponsor Relations team, Gemma and everyone at St Jude’s!

With Regards,

Grace

It was so wonderful being in Washington D.C. this week to listen to the founder of the School of St Jude, Gemma Sisia and some of her brilliant students. It is so amazing to see how these kids, who come from dire poverty, have blossomed over the years. I know they will soon be leaders back in their communities in Tanzania after they finish their studies here in the United States. We at the Karyn Heckman Family Foundation are proud to partner with this outstanding school. A special thank you to AMB. Joe Hockey of Australia for hosting the event.

We want to thank both the School of St Jude and Culver Academies for their tremendous support for the Karyn Heckman Family Foundation's efforts to create a cross-culturally exchange. The photos here show only a small portion of the interaction between the Culver faculty and the wonderful students and teachers of the School of St. Jude. This was truly a great learning and growing experience for both schools, thank you!
