Kristine Marsh, Founder and President of Destination Knowledge, shares a special welcome for the newest member of our team:

I am incredibly honored and excited to welcome Laura Close to the Destination Knowledge family!

Laura and I first worked together at Educational Resources in 1995. It was my first “real job” as a college graduate. I was proud of my new job and had “dressed the part,” or so I thought. Then a young woman walked through the front door with such confidence and presence that I immediately thought, “Now that is someone I want to emulate.”

That woman was Laura Close.

Over the past thirty years, our career paths have paralleled, representing several of the best product lines through our respective companies. I had the pleasure of connecting with her at annual meetings, while also engaging in ‘friendly competition’ for the #1 spots. She repeatedly earned that spot! Over the years, we have become close colleagues as we have relied on one another for support, leadership, laughs and tears, as we navigated our ever-changing education marketspace.

Laura brings a wealth of experience, deep literacy knowledge, strong relationships, and an exceptional understanding of the education market. She will help Destination Knowledge expand our reach, particularly throughout Florida’s Panhandle, an important region I have wanted to serve more intentionally but have not had the time to tackle myself.

Laura, I am so excited that we now get to pursue that mission together, and positively impact student outcomes. Welcome to Destination Knowledge!

Give Back Day = a Friday well spent!

The DK Team headed out into our communities for a day of volunteering, and everyone found a different way to pitch in.

📚 Kristine spent the day at Braden River Middle School, where she organized donated school supplies, made handmade lanyards and assembled permanent lanyards for students.

🍞 Cali got quite the workout at Feeding Tampa Bay, moving, shrink-wrapping and weighing pallets of bread products before they headed out for distribution throughout the area.

🥫 Leah volunteered with Feeding Tampa Bay, stocking the Feeding Pinellas food pantry and helping clean and prepare Trinity Cafe for lunch service.

👕 Patty spent her day at Miami Rescue Mission, sorting and distributing clothes to people returning to work.

It was great to see the work these organizations are doing firsthand and have the chance to contribute. We can’t wait to do it again!

Students don’t all enter math class with the same level of readiness.

Some need critical academic vocabulary before a new concept. Others need a quick refresh on a prerequisite skill. The challenge is giving that support without pulling students away from grade-level math.

That’s where Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Just-in-Time instruction can work together.

UDL helps teachers create multiple ways for students to access, engage with, and show understanding of grade-level content. Just-in-Time support gives students brief, targeted help right when they need it so unfinished learning doesn’t become a barrier.

When schools pair those approaches with a tool like Ascend Math, teachers can identify skill gaps, personalize support, and keep students moving forward.

We are immensely proud and grateful for the opportunity to help keep the students of Hillsborough County safer and healthier! We passionate about this initiative!

KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE AND HEALTHY 🚭 Our district is expanding an initiative to help prevent and quickly respond to va**ng on our campuses.

Va**ng detectors will be installed in middle and K-8 school bathrooms. We have already been using these detectors in our high schools, where they have helped administrators identify va**ng incidents more quickly and respond promptly.

The system uses technology that detects airborne v***r and immediately sends an alert so staff can check the area. The detectors do not record audio or video.

Smoking and va**ng are prohibited on all Hillsborough County Public Schools campuses. Expanding this initiative is part of our broader effort to reduce va**ng, support student health, and ensure our schools can respond quickly when incidents occur.

To learn more about consequences for va**ng-related violations, please view the HCPS Student Code of Conduct: https://www.hillsboroughschools.org/o/hcps/page/student-code-of-conduct

Elementary students aren’t built to sit still for hours and then be expected to stay focused on reading and math.

Movement isn’t separate from learning. It can be one of the most effective ways to strengthen attention, comprehension, and retention during core instruction.

That’s why kinesthetic learning matters.

When physical activity is built directly into academic lessons, students have more opportunities to stay engaged, process concepts in different ways, and connect movement with mastery.

See why active learning belongs in Pre-K to 5 instruction and how The Walkabouts Platform helps schools bring standards-correlated, evidence-based movement into the classroom.

When students get the right support, progress can change what comes next. 💜

By the end of the 2025–2026 school year, 77% of Lynn Lambo’s students had made enough progress that they no longer required remedial reading classes.

We’re proud to see MindPlay Education supporting educators as they help students strengthen their reading skills and move forward with confidence.
