I was introduced to the auction world through my family’s involvement in Angus seedstock sales. I attended my first auction at six weeks old, and auctions have been a regular part of my life ever since. At 15, I became determined to learn the art of auctioneering after entering a bid-calling contest.
At 18, I got the opportunity to enroll at WCA. I initially started my auction career slurring and mimicking other auctioneers with no success, but the incredible instructors took me back to the basics. They helped me build a rock-solid foundation for my chant and brought out my true personality.
They taught me to focus not just on what number is coming next, but on how to have a conversation with the audience. The WCA staff is so committed to teaching the skills needed to be successful; my experience was second to none. The auction industry is a giving, supportive family, and as a graduate, I’m excited about my future in the business. I encourage any and all to take a class at Western and find their auction family!

Our roots run deep here at WCA. Today, we are excited to wish a Happy 90th Birthday to Armon Wolff, who attended the Western College of Auctioneering in 1964. He claimed the title of reserve world champion livestock auctioneer in 1979. He once said he wished he had a dollar for every head of cattle he sold throughout his lifetime. He loved selling cattle and cutting hay. Armon tells of the fond memories he has of his instructors and others that attended the Western College of Auctioneering in 1964. Congratulations on your many successes in the auction business, and happy birthday, Armon.
