If your child is ready for one more week of outdoor discovery before school starts, we'd love to have them join us! We have two camps with a few spots left during the week of August 10-14:

More Than a Bug’s Life | Grades 1-2
🐛 Campers will discover the amazing world of insects and other invertebrates while searching high and low for butterflies, spiders, bees, crickets, and more. Through hands-on exploration, they'll learn why these tiny creatures play such an important role in healthy ecosystems.

Treasure Hunting 101 | Grades 5-6
🗺️ Adventure awaits as campers become modern-day explorers, using maps, clues, observation skills, and teamwork to uncover hidden treasures while exploring the natural world. This camp includes field trips to places around the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, including Lewis and Clark Caverns.

Head over to bit.ly/moss-registration to register!

Downy Woodpecker hard at work 🚧 Do you think this bird is looking for food, communicating, or making a nest?

🐛 According to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Downy Woodpeckers eat mainly insects, including beetle larvae that live inside wood or tree bark as well as ants and caterpillars. Feeding birds make surprisingly little noise even when they’re digging vigorously into wood.

🎤 Downy Woodpeckers don’t sing like songbirds, but they do communicate with a combination of short, sharp calls and drumming loudly against pieces of wood or metal.

🪵 Next time you’re out, look for 1-1.5 inch round holes in dead trees or dead parts of live trees. Nest trees are often deciduous, and the wood is often infected with a fungus that softens the wood, making excavating easier.
