Nature can be a powerful force! During our Forces of Nature camp, students will learn how natural phenomena such as wildfire, flooding, landslides, and wind can shape the world around us. πΈοΈ As the snow melts, it reveals the hidden story of winter beneath our feet. Look closely, and you might spot vole tunnels, frost heaves, fresh green shoots, andβ¦ webs? What looks like spider silk is actually snow mold, a cold-loving fungus that thrives in the space between the ground and snow. With steady moisture, low light, still air, and above-freezing temps, the conditions are perfect for snow mold to flourish.
π As things warm up and dry out, the mold fades into dormancy until next winterβs snowpack brings it back to life.
