A few weeks ago we said farewell to two wonderful students who are off to make their mark on the world! Marin heads to the East Coast and Colby College, while Leo will stay in town for the Honors College at MSU.
Despite a cool, cloudy morning, we got in quite the celebration!

Bozeman Field School is High School designed around YOU -- not the other way around.
With intentionally small classes and a curated community, BFS is all about
1) Applied Learning
2) Academic Rigor
3) Deep Personalization & Human Scale
BFS is a private high school where we believe that students learn best by doing. Our students are intellectually curious and understand that education should be richer, deeper, and more invigorating than rote memorization and bland routine.

Curious if you are a good fit for Bozeman Field School? Being curious is a great start!
BFS students are intellectually curious, inspired by challenge, and motivated by achievement beyond grades. They believe education should be active, meaningful, and connected to the real world through rigorous academics, immersive fieldwork, internships, independent studies, and daily experiences beyond the classroom.
BFS students thrive in a deeply personal environment—one where they are known as individuals and encouraged to pursue their own interests, strengths, and ambitions. They value authenticity, intellectual engagement, close community, and the freedom to explore who they are becoming.
Above all, BFS students believe high school should not be a waiting room for life. They want it to be the place where life begins to take shape for them.

One of the things we learned about on our last expedition to J Bar L Ranch was the importance of beavers in an ecosystem in creating resilient and diverse waterways. We got the chance to work with to build our own beaver dam analogs, mimicking the work of beavers to slow down water in a stream. Students got to work pounding posts, weaving willows, and moving mud!

Students from Bozeman Field School spent a week on the J Bar L Crazy D Ranch collecting ecological data and creating presentations based on their findings. They learned about land and water health, collaborating with WSE to use real-world protocols and tools. The last night, students shared projects with our hosts and ranching neighbors to discuss their work. We are so grateful for this opportunity to learn from the incredible folks at WSE and J Bar L, and for the hard work of students in gathering important metrics on the land.

With a carefully curated community of fewer than 30 students and faculty, Bozeman Field School is intentionally small and deeply personal: education should adapt to the student—not the other way around. Spots are filling fast!
We provide support when needed, remove limits where growth is possible, and create a culture where students are known, included, and encouraged to live authentically. We believe high school should feel less like waiting for life to begin—and more like the moment when it actually does.

The annual cheese tasting (in preparation for the annual regatta) was a huge success! Students and faculty wore their best "yacht club attire" (stripes encouraged) and discussed the seaworthiness of their various vessels. Good luck to everyone in the regatta!
