The 2026 Montana Municipal Institute brought together local government professionals and leaders from across the state for a week of learning, collaboration, and connection in Billings.

This year, 101 Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officers joined 35 Elected Officials, representing communities from across Montana—all committed to learning alongside one another.

Hosted by the MSU Extension Local Government Center in partnership with the Montana Municipal Clerks, Treasurers & Finance Officers Association, the Institute continues to serve as a cornerstone professional development event. The program is designed to equip participants with timely workshops, practical tools, and expert-led sessions that help them navigate the complex and essential responsibilities of municipal service.

The MSU Local Government Center is hosting a series of highly interactive regional trainings in early 2026—designed exclusively for newly elected officials. These 2.5‑hour workshops will ground you in the essential knowledge and real‑world skills you need to lead with confidence and clarity.

• Roles of mayors, councils, and municipal staff.
• Open meeting & citizen participation laws.
• How to manage effective meetings.
• Montana Code of Ethics.
