✈ The BOREALIS students are one week in and taking to the skies!

MSGC students Gabe & Mikael are test flying an invention of their own. It’s an autonomous fixed wing plane to be used as a research platform for MSU and other universities across the country. It features a removable payload system on a modular, 3D printed airframe. The goal is to make an accessible, open sourced and American made platform for aerial research.

MSGC interns are encouraged to explore ideas and solve problems. That’s what full-time work in the lab is for! If you’re interested in an opportunity like this, sign up for our student emails (link in bio) to hear about the next application deadline 📬

🫶🏻 Students are at the center of everything we do at MSGC.

🔬This past spring many students participated in undergraduate research apprenticeships and graduate fellowships. These three students are from as they set up their reactions and collect their own NMR spectra data. They participated in a MSGC research apprenticeship with Dr. John Rowley at the . During their time in the lab, they successfully synthesized their respective phenylthiophene monomers via a Suzuki cross coupling reaction. Per Dr. Rowley, “the yields were low, but sufficient to crystalize out products and confirm using 1HNMR.”

🎉 Hats off to them for their commitment and focus and the experience gained by stepping outside their comfort zone. If you’re interested in how to conduct research, working in a lab, or getting paid to do it, please reach out any time. We’re here to help!

😎 Welcome to summer, which means Summer Internships! This is our first student feature, Kaia Ecklund. Read about his story, from exploring computer skills at Great Falls College MSU to interning with NASA at Langley Research Center 🚀

Kaia Ecklund’s journey is a powerful example of where curiosity, mentorship, and hands-on opportunities can lead. After connecting with MSGC and gaining experience through a drone-focused internship at the , Kaia is spending his summer working with FireSense Wildland Fire Safety Project in Virginia. 🌎🔥

We’re incredibly proud to support students like Kaia as they pursue opportunities that once felt out of reach—and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Follow along for other intern stories throughout the summer! 👏✨

Another year of our space, public outreach (SPOT) team concludes! We welcome new faces and say goodbye to familiar ones. Swipe to learn more and read on for a goodbye message from Faith, one of our SPOT managers. Cheers to a great year!

It’s truly been so wonderful working with SPOT and the ambassadors. We have learned so much!

One of my favorite memories was just spending time getting to know everyone! All the fun games, learning unique things about one another, and doing show and tell! Show and tell was such a fun opportunity for us to learn more about each other and see the ambassadors as more than students.

I’m indebted to SPOT and MSGC, for their support! Our SPOTties have been so welcoming to us - coming in without experience in physics was daunting - and they made sure to make us feel comfortable!

If you are interested in learning more about SPOT, check out the link in our bio!
