HSTR 350: Modern Britain will meet MWF 9 - 9:50. The course will focus on British history from 1688 to the present and will examine the beginnings of the British Empire, 19th-century industrialization and domestic unrest, and the development of the British welfare state in the 20th century. We will analyze gossip about the British monarchy in the seventeenth century, discuss Jane Austen and George Eliot, and listen to British pop. Winston Churchill will make an appearance and Charles Darwin will ruffle a few feathers.
The course does have prerequisites, but the instructor is willing to give permission to interested students on a case-by-case basis.
