MSU hosted the Montana regional championship for FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Congratulations to the nearly 80 middle school teams participating!
A decade ago it used to be unusual to have girls on the FLL teams, but nowadays we are so pleased to see as many girls as boys on most teams--and a great group of all-girls teams, too. You go, girls!

Two MSU projects receive NASA grants to fund student flight research opportunities
One sends a student-built satellite to space to demonstrate a radiation-tolerant computer technology and the other seeks to understand what causes the extraordinarily bright gamma-ray flashes that are produced by the lightning that occurs within a cloud.

MSU researchers test computer technology on International Space Station
As of Dec. 14, the International Space Station has a new visitor: a Rubik's Cube-sized computer prototype, designed by Montana State University researchers to demonstrate an improved method for coping with the radiation of outer space.

Came across this historic MSU photo depicting the demolition of the "electrical engineering laboratory" in 1948. I'm not sure where this building was located or what replaced it. Roberts Hall was constructed in 1922 and Cobleigh Hall in 1970, and the former Ryon Lab was built sometime in between. Ryon Lab was torn down in 1997 to make way for Barnard Hall (formerly known as EPS). Maybe this EE Lab was torn down to build Ryon Lab?

Many prospective students are interested in biomedical engineering. Getting a degree in EE is a good place to start:
[quote]
But a biomedical engineering degree is not always necessary, [IEEE Life Fellow Kenneth Foster] points out: “Majoring in electrical engineering does not foreclose job opportunities in biomedical engineering. Many medical imaging companies hire EEs for image- and signal-processing projects, and most medical device companies hire EEs and mechanical engineers for instrumentation design.”

Fall classes now underway! Welcome, and welcome back!
The construction of the parking garage is going well, with concrete being poured for the upper level deck. Groundbreaking for Asbjornson Hall will take place on September 22, 2016.
