Please join us for Mountain Yarns tomorrow, March 21, from 7-8pm at The Mountain Project
This month’s theme is “Parent Power,” and we’re stoked to bring you two yarns, one from afar, Morocco, and the other from the place we all call home—Montana.
As English and Language Arts teacher at Peak Academy, Rab is always encouraging his students to take themselves to the edge of their comfort zones when they write their personal stories. Now it’s his turn to do the same.
Hop in the Cummings old and broken-down Subaru, grab your binoculars and walking shoes, and let Rab take you on a journey with his family as they build indelible ties to the place we call home, Montana. You might even learn a little about parent power by the end.
We hope to see you tomorrow night! The event is open to all. TMP recommends donating $10 to Peak Academy, the nonprofit of the month and TMP will provide free beers and drinks.
Also speaking is Paige Southwood who took a three-week trip with her two children to explore the small villages and rural mountain towns throughout Morocco. Her yarn, titled, “They Might be Monsters,” has themes many parents are facing these days.
Paige says, “What was intended to be an introduction to greater cultural awareness and appreciation for our soft lives in Silicon Valley soon became a little shop of horrors as I watched their unabashed entitlement on full display. Could my good intentions change the course of our trip and their attitudes, or was I destined to raise two 21st-century monsters?”

📚🏛️ Exploring the rich history of Gallatin County! Our students had an amazing afternoon diving into the past. A quick stop at the Courthouse and a visit to the Gallatin History Museum opened their minds to over a century of journalism, diverse living conditions, and the fascinating pastimes of Bozeman’s early residents. 🗞️🏠
📸 Check out this snapshot of our students by the Jefferson River near the Headwaters of the Missouri. They were engrossed in reading an Avant Courier-Journal from the 1890s, transporting themselves back to a time of log cabin meals on the frontier. They also couldn’t help but admire the stunning mural depicting the founding of Bozeman, the Gallatin County Seat. 🌄🌲

Learning from Idaho Fish and Game, we sort fish in the live tank after an electrifying electrofishing session in Targhee Creek. Through expeditionary learning, we deepen our understanding of conservation and the delicate ecosystem. Together, we protect and preserve these aquatic treasures. 🐟💦

Stretching our legs on Friday afternoons is part of our regular learning practice. It’s a good way to spend some time outdoors, reflect, and connect as we head into the weekend.
