Six years of formation conferences to the men of this house are now published.
Our Rector and President, Fr. Alfredo Hernandez , has published Fiat: Forming Faithful and Fruitful Priests with En Route Books and Media. Released August 9, it gathers the conferences he has given here at SVDP on holiness, preaching, leadership, celibacy, hope, fraternity, and pastoral charity.
The foreword is fittingly written by the now Bishop David Toups of Catholic Diocese of Beaumont, who served as rector-president at SVDP alongside Fr. Alfredo who held various positions, including Academic Dean, under Bishop Toups' tenure.
The book is written for seminarians and for priests already in the field, carrying within much wisdom and reflection for the faithful who support their shepherds' ministry. Endorsements include messages from Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Bishop Felipe Estévez and others.
Fr. Hernández holds an STL in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a PhD in Pastoral Studies from North-West University, and has served as President-Rector at SVDP since 2020.

Final days of Make-A-Will Month.
A will is where your values are written down. Since 1963 this seminary has formed more than 700 priests for dioceses across the Southeast, and that work continued because people before us planned for it. Today there are 130 or more men in formation here, sent by 13 dioceses.
You do not have to include the seminary to use this tool, and we mean that. Write your will because your family deserves the clarity, and because putting your faith in writing is a good and holy thing to do.

Eight days after the Assumption, the Church honors Mary as Queen of Heaven.
We all are invited to be sons and daughters of so loving a Queen and mother. Seminarians are especially invited to a deep devotion to our blessed mother as they seek to be conformed to the likeness of her son Jesus. A priest who belongs to Mary belongs all the more to her Son.
Mary, Queen of Heaven, pray for our seminarians.

Today the Church celebrates the memorial of Saint Pius X (1835– 1914). He is often named as the patron saint of the poor, pilgrims, and first communicants.
During his Pontificate, he worked much for the renewal of the priesthood and longed for holy priests to serve God's people. One beautiful exhortation of his on the need for priestly sanctity is Haerent Animo, "Your sanctification has, indeed, first place in our thoughts and in our cares; therefore, with our eyes raised to heaven, we frequently pray for the whole clergy, repeating the words of Christ, our Lord: Holy Father . . . sanctify them."
As a new year of formation begins, we ask his intercession for every man entering these halls to discern and prepare for the priesthood. May they be given generous hearts, steady perseverance, and a deep love for Christ and His Church.
Saint Pius X, patron of seminarians, pray for our men.

Three reasons to write your will this month.
It provides for the people you love. It lets you support what you believe in. And it gives you peace of mind, which is worth more than most of us admit.
More than a quarter of all will writing happens in August. There is something about this month that finally moves people to do the thing they have been putting off. Free, Catholic, and about fifteen minutes.

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, taken body and soul into the glory of heaven. In her, the promise held out to all of us is already fulfilled.
Mary is the model of the total gift of self that every priest is called to make. Our men look to her as they learn to say, as she did, "Let it be done to me according to your word." Everything we do at SVDP begins in that same yes. Praised be to God for giving us so great a mother!
(Because the Solemnity falls on a Saturday this year, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted, though we warmly encourage you to honor Our Lady by attending mass if you can.)
Mary Queen of Apostles, Mary Mother of Priests, Mary Assumed into Heaven, pray for us!

More than 130 men. Thirteen dioceses. One house of formation.
The men who study and pray together at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary come from across the Southeast, from Miami to Atlanta to Raleigh, and from many cultures and languages. For nearly 8 years they share one chapel, one table, and one long road toward the priesthood.
The friendships formed here do not end at ordination. They become a true brotherhood of priests who will serve the parishes of the Southeast for decades. These presbyteral bonds go beyond diocesan boundaries and are rooted in the eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ. A man is not formed for the priesthood alone. He is formed among brothers in a line that truely traces back to the Apostles and their successors.
Please pray for our men, that the bonds they form here would strengthen them for a lifetime of service.
