High school students, especially 12th graders, are reading and learning math and science at historic lows, according to a new report from the National Assessment of Education Progress.

The report shows almost half of high school seniors are now testing below basic levels in math and reading, and approximately 35% are at or above a proficient reading level, while 32% of them had a below "basic" reading proficiency.

🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️Parents of 6th Graders – Big Changes Ahead!
Just like the jump from preschool to kindergarten, moving into middle school is a major transition. Here are some things that may be brand new for your child this year:

1️⃣ Grading Scale Changes – This may be the first time they see letter grades: A, B, C, D, and F.

2️⃣ Switching Classes Independently – In elementary school, they walked in lines with the whole class. Now, they must get to each class on their own and manage their time between bells.

3️⃣ Organization is Key – Teachers won’t be managing your child’s binder, backpack, or homework for them. Think about how you can help them stay organized at home and school.

4️⃣ Tracking Their Own Grades – Students now need to check their online portal regularly to make sure assignments are turned in and deadlines are met.

5️⃣ Shorter Grading Periods – The switch from trimesters to 9-week quarters means less time to bring grades up before report cards are issued.

Middle school is exciting but comes with new responsibilities—support and preparation at home make a huge difference.
